hey all at AMC.
over the last couple of months ive been tossing up on how to lower my car...
now, before i get started...whats the law on the lowered suspension subject? is it 100mm to the lowest point of the car without passengers or with passengers??
ive been told a few different things and i dont know who to take seriously!
i rang Vicroads, and the guy on the phone didnt even know! that really increased my faith in the VicRoads system.
ok, well im not sure on how to go about it. i dont want to spend a fortune on lowering my car, even though i love it, but at the end of the day no matter what, it wont handle like an F1 car!
i was thinking on just replacing the springs. maybe getting some from Autobarn or somewhere and doing it myself, but im unsure on how much itl get lowered. i dont want to fit them, then realise its still too high, or too damn low!
if anyone has lowered their 2nd gen, id really like to know how you went about it!
any help would be great! :D

full car load at 100mm i believe, though i've never heard of a cop actually getting out and measuring the distance.
If you are going to get new lowered springs, it is adivisable to get new shockers that can handle the new height, ie. monroe gt gas.
A full set of shockers will set you back about $400, springs are about $120 for a set of 2, so about $250 just for the springs. Then there is labour, but if you know someone who knows how to do it then that would work out cheaper. Send Bain a pm, he knows a couple of cheap spring places in vic. Because the front on a magna sits higher than the rear, most people get super low fronts, low rears to even it out. But you can go lows all round to be on the safe side and will definately be at legal ride limit. You've seen my rear, lows will sit about where mine are.

about the cops with the tape measure... the cops here ( some of the arsehole ones) carry a 100mm high plank of wood... they swing it under the car and if the hit anything your gone... they are pretty crazy around here but...
they deffected a guy for not havin water in his window wipers things... i know its illegal not to have water but serously.... who checks that **** $150 for it .
pretty crazy ...
and just another quick funny storey... my mate owns a wrx hatch turbod to the mox with 20" on it and it ****in flies... and ways the cop pulled us up for going 50 in the 40 zone and i was in the back and he told me to put this sticker on the back window... i put it on there then realized what it said.. COPS ARE TOPS .. I pissed my self laughing.. and the copper was like nice sticker... and he let him off with a warning. Im like i getting my 100 of them lol

Just so happens I have a good pair of Rear GT Gas with king lows sitting here :)
Go the third gen if you get new springs for the rear, they are stiffer, the front for second gen and third are the same
Also be warned that you need to release both your front lower control arm bushes, put weight on the car and re tighten them to reset the angle as you will tear them otherwise.

Years ago my brothers car got defected in Melbourne for being too low, the cops checked the height by looking under the car for the lowest point (in his case the exhaust) and then they ran a set of 100mm diameter trolley wheels on a stick under the car, if they hit you get defected. We were all out of the car when they checked it.
Seeing as this happened in Vic, I thought it might give people some idea of the Vic laws.

As far as the ADR's go, and this is also in the VicRoads Modifications charts, you can lower your vehicle on 2 conditions.
You have at least 100mm ground clearance.
You do not reduce the suspension travel by more than 1/3rd. This is usually measured with driver and a tank of fuel
