View Full Version : WARNING! 4 tail light tinters

For those who saw my tinting posts and pictures WARNING. The clear coat shown in one of the pictures IS NOT SAFE!. It acts like a thiner and will remove the tinting. Thankfully I used my test plastic to find this out, would have been killed if I did it on the lights. On a brighter note I just finished testing the lights and i've seen no need to buy new bulbs as the lights are fully visable from quite a distance.

If anyone can suggest a clear coat that won't effect the tinting that would be great.

Also plz post any replies to my previous tail light tinting thred.

See the boot lid portion of the lights are still untinted ( will be done tonight i hope ), gives an idea of how dark 4 coats of tint gets them.

No I did really only use 4 coats. I bought some quick dry enamel today but have decided not to use it as it keeps coming up in tiny bubbles :( . I also bought the night shade from autobarn today and it seems to be darker than the supercheap can I pictured in my last thred, cheaper too. I'm doing the boot lid part of the lights now stupid things. To get them off you have to remove the black plate from the boot lock ( only 2 screws ). The final nut in under this and connects to the locking mechinizim, so mark where the nut is before removal. I'll put up the finished job tonight ( almost done now ).

Mabey we each applied it differently. As long as they look good who cares how many coats were used, right?.

OK here's the finished job. Sorry it's so dark again the sun beat me, but..... it shows the visibility at night. Note that the reflectors on the lights still reflect ( this is important ).

Brakes aren't shown coz I need new bulbs. The twats at autobarn gave us turning light bulbs  .

A hint: don't use it like normal spray paint. Hold it away so that only a light mist hits it and all over it, NOT in lines. Cover evenly wait till fully dry and go again till tinted to your happy.
I'll put up 1 more pic 2moro with a day shot. Thanks 4 the praise.

As long as the Rear Reflectors show you should be OK with the Law. How ever it will be up to the Individual officer..
