ive had my TE magna now for nearly a year ive done just over 50,000km and im on about my 7-8th set of brake pads....i have replaced my brake pads at nearly once a month and on my 5th set i got sick of it so replaced all the calipers, pads, discs...$800 later im still chewing through pads...i mean i did quite a few hills runs but even before i was in amc // following crazy ass chris (seafood) through the hills i was still chewing em...anyone else having this problem???

Well im guessing ur chewing them at that rate casue u are buying super soft brake pads or you do lots of ks per week with lots of braking.
Though its prob due to using super soft brake compound.

yeap use bendix or brembo's. when i bought my car i had normall mitsu ones and my front was cutitn heaps with a **** load of brake dust so i got bendix and man i felt the differance straight away (official test was while testing them i slammed my brakes with my sister flying to the dash lol. she was weraing a seat belt though but it was funny.lol). so go for brembo's or bendix.

Actually I have had long life out of the genuine mitsu pads, i seem to get around 100,000km out of the fronts which i think is excellent, and very little dust. And thats half city driving too. They are expensive but I think they are worth it.

I think its the way you use them. I mean you said you go on those kind of rides...etc so yeah probably wear them out much faster than it normally should. If you see Rally cars they change them every race lol.
Ok while you guys have recommended some brakes to use, are there any other Magna type brands that we can choose for normal everyday drive?

I'm on my second set which i got 50,000km ago and they've still got 50% left.. so yeah depends how ya drive. I'm a really light braker and I brake a lot earlier and lighter than most people coming to lights, roundabouts etc. Has advantages like minimal dust and wear. But when driving in brissy can be a disadvantage cuz people cut ya off left right and centre.
PS I'm using genuine pads.. the brand beforehand I'm not sure but they were 8 bucks per pad! Cheapest brand ever, BUT, they were long lasting, no dust, but brake fading was a lot worse when heavy braking was needed.

I use bendix Ultima brake pads with DBA Gold Discs.
Considering I do alot of heavy braking I have no problems with brake pad wear as they seem to last for ages. Also very good braking power.

7 sets of pads in 50,000kms!!!! something about that doesn't sit right with me. You're not buying those $10/set brake pads of ebay by any chance are you??!!
I switched to Bendix advanced pads and DBC Gold (front) and DBC slotted (rear) nearly 12 months ago now. After I'd had them about 6 months - I decided to pull the brakes apart to paint the calipers. Much to my surprise - the pads still looked like new!!
Having said that - I don't do many K's per week, or much 'spirited' driving, but even so that number of pads sounds incredible to me. If you do that much 'spirited' driving - maybe you should look at upgrading your pad and disc / rotor selection!! Better safe than sorry.
