Well after having the Crossfires for only a week i've called my car audio shop to get two new Alpine Type-R's.

After trading in my beast Type-X to my car audio shop they given me these average 200RMS Crossfire P112 subs. They sound fairly nice, and play all my RNB quite loud, loud but seriously struggle to get low freq quality badly. They've put the gain on the MRD-M1005 down quite alot and I feel like ive bought the best alpine can offer while giving it a mild working life. I turned the gain up and guess what? They distort :D (Hardly gets hot on the 2x Crossfires)

So yes, subs not to get:

-Alpine Type X 12"
-Crossfire P112 12"

We'll see how Alpine's new Type R's are like next Thursday, they look nice (but so did the Type X) but I know for a fact that my mates 2 year old Type R's on the biggest V-power amp punishes.

Fingers Crossed :doubt:

What type of box where they in? The type of box can seriously change how low a sub can go.

But yeah still 200 wrms isnt alot.

Subs will only Crank when given the Correct Signal, Power and in the Correctly Tuned Enclosure...
If the Alpine Type X has failed you, you may want to look at what enclosures you are using to achieve your Bass Goal...

I heard an Alpine Type X in a Tuned Bandpass enclosure and it absolutely hammered !! It got down low nice and Clean and hit hard...

I am suprised about your comments re: the Type-X subs. I have had the pleasure of listening to these in three different cars, and all were good.

One had dual 12" type-Xs in a (recommended volume) sealed enclosure with a MRD1000 (or whatever they are called), wired the voice coils in series (8ohms load per driver) and then wired the two drivers parallel to present a 4ohm load to the amp. The amp was running at about 85% of the gains.
The sound quality was excellent, great attack on the beats, the linearity was amazing. Not the loudest subs I have ever heard, but definitely would be happy to have this in my car.

Car two had the same, except it had 2 MRD-1001's and the voice coils were wired parallel and presenting a 2 ohm load to the amps.
Sound level nearly knocked my head off! I'm told by the owner that the car has pulled a 140dB run and I believe it. I felt every internal organ vibrate. Freaking awesome experience. Sound quality was what I'd rate a very good.

Car three was dual 10" in a (recommended volume & port) ported box with MRD 1605's for each sub wired parallel. Obviously did not go as low as the subsonic filters are brought into play to protect the driver from over excursion below tuned frequency of the box, but it was very punchy. Yes, it did lack alot in the deep rumble department but it definitley wasn't quiet.

I'm not familiar with those particular crossfire subs... So I cannot comment on them.

Type R's are great, I like them alot. However they suffer from the same problem as almost all Alpine subs - low sensitivity which makes for a lower sound level. They do this to try and achieve more SQ I guess. They also don't go as low as some other brands either. Check you have the subsonic filters either off or as low as they go if you are running a sealed enclosure.

It sounds like you want low low end rumble, so I'd be looking for a Single 15" sub, sealed enclosure. 15's always rumble better, 10's are punchy and hit hard, 12's are a compromise between both. I'd be grabbing a pre-loaded 15" box, hooking it up to the amp and taking that for a test drive. It might not be what you want, but you may be suprised and get the result you want.

happy shopping

I think he needs to look at the Tuning of his choice of enclosures as he Said they don't go low enough or have trouble producing Low down Quality Bass.

A 15 inch Sealed will have More Bass Quality but a 15 inch Tuned Bandpass will be able to get down low and Deep and loud within its Tuned Parameters..

So in this Case I don't think it is the Subs fault but more towards the tuning and power delivery that might be at fault..

If you want the serious Crossfire try the XT212. ;)

See the "results of our BBQ thread" to see what happened. :)

Hey!
just looked at the 22" mtx! i reckon you would need EXTRA suspension to hold that in the boot!
The Type X should definately sound wicked, if it doesnt then you havent done it justice with either power or enclosure.
I say this because ive heard the type S - excellent!
Ive heard the type R - unbelievably Loud! with the near same setup
Have'nt heard the type x but logic tells me if you hav the money to spend, Buy them!

I have heard very few people say Alpine sux ??
I hear Tonnes more Complaining About their Kenwood Twister subs Blowing up then an Alpine Type S...

As i have stated Before I have a Feeling it is the Enclosure and Power being Fed to his subs... the Postion of the Subs also Play a Very important part in how a Sub will perform...
Just Wacking Brand X into a No frills enclosure will not allow the Sub to play at its best...

There is no Pre fabricated Box that will ideally suite a Type X ,a Custom built Ported enclosure would have made that Bad boy drop down lower then whale Crap at the Bottom of the Pacific Ocean !!!!!!!
It all has to do with Tuning if a Sub wont Play Really good low end..
