Hi all.
I'm going to change the thermostat on my '95 TS V6 as the current one is sticking open and not allowing the engine to get to operating temp quickly enough. I'm also going to renew the coolant at the same time.
I've got everything ready to go but I just need to know where the engine block coolant drain plug can be found? None of the manuals I've consulted show where it is. They only mention that the drain plug needs to be removed to drain the coolant out of the block.
Does anyone have any guidance as to where it is?
thanks.
Pete

there isnt a plug to my knowledge, just have to take the bottom hose off and let it drain out, also drain it before and after the water pump

Thanks 97_verada.
What do you mean when you say "drain it before and after the water pump?"

There are two plugs (read bolts) at sort of 6 inches from the base of the engine block - one on the front side one on the back side. Good luck trying to get them out though!

There is one on each side of the block as Dave stated. He saw me getting his plugs out when I changed his coolant.
The rear one is easier to get to, they have a 14mm bolt head.

Thanks guys. The Haynes Workshop Manual and another manual I've looked at both say to remove the coolant drain plug after taking off the lower radiator hose. The manuals just didn't state where the coolant drain plug was to be found. I was prepared to just get under the car with a light and have a look around low down on the engine block but I'd rather know roughly where to look so thanks for the info.

I could only spot them after Mal showed me. Not the easiest of things to get to. But a necessary thing. If you're putting fresh coolant in then you don't want to contaminate it with the old.
My last 2 coolant changes I had no idea where the plugs were so I've only done half flushes until now. I shudder to think what that might have done!

I have PM'd Jellico earlier in the week. :D
Unfortunately, I am still unable to find the drain plugs as they're not shown in either the Haynes Workshop Manual I have or in any other manual I've seen. They are just referenced along the lines of.......
"Remove lower radiator hose, wait for coolant to drain out and then remove the coolant drain plug to drain coolant remaining in the engine block before flushing".
But none of the manuals show where the drain plugs are. I'll just have to get under the car this arvo when I do it and work it out once I'm there.
It can't be too hard (I hope). 14mm bolt heads in the lower part of the engine block that are not actually securing any ancilliary equipment on the block.
Thanks everyone. I'll post up a description of the actual location (maybe with photos if I can get organised) once it's done.

They are tricky to get to and will be extremly tight with the sealant used in the factory.
You will have fun gettng these little buggers out lol
