G,Day people
This week my ecu died ,my car ran for 13 seconds after I started it and then it died and then you could hear ticking noises under the glove box and I could smell a burning electric smell ,so I undone the panels under the dash and the kick panel and felt the ecu box and it was warm.Anyway I rang the wreckers and was quoted $270.00 for a second hand unit, some people have payed up to $750.00 for an auto elec to fix this problem,so I done a bit of looking on the net and found a guy in mount Evelyn whom recos ecu units for $150.00 and gives them a 12 mth warranty ....these units arn,t hard to pull out. If you want contact details email me always happy to help.....!
My magna is a 1992 tr 2.6 ltr efi ,5 speed manual.

Is a recon a good idea for the computer? Who's to say that 20-30000ks later it won't do it again or is this just what mitsu would do?

I suppose any reco stuff can go bung after a while ,even reco engines can stuff up but people still risk it and take the chance,I think it depends how much money your willing to spend on your toys....!

With Mitsubishis when you get engine or trans ecu failure then a reco unit is the only way to go.
Factory units have poor quailty defective bits that cause the failures in the first place. A properly reconditioned ECU will have all these bits replaced. Reco should be more reliable than an original ECU and shouldn't fail again.
