OK... I dont want my TR anymore :(

I want a 3rd Gen... please tell me about YOUR cars... tell me the model (TE, TF, TH, TJ) and style (Exec, Advance, Sports, VRX)

and recommend me a car under the following conditions:

- Must be MANUAL (i might get the plates "MANUAL 2" )
- Can be any engine except 2.4L 4... Ive had it with 4's :P )
- Must be no more than $16000 current market value (hopefully the $16k will drop to around $14k by the end of the year)...

My preference is of course a TJ, they are so sexy... or a TH due to the 3.5, but i have taken into consideration a 3.0L TE... so the doors are wide open

Check at Skipper Mitsubishi in Vic Park. They have 2001 TJ's going out for $15990 at the moment, and im sure a manual could be had.

No no, I meant to show you what's available to give you an idea of what's in your price range.

It'll be hard finding a nice TJ for 16,000, but if you look around enough you could find one.

Maybe look for a 3.5 TH exec manual and then mod that to 163kW (not hard at all!)

It'll be lighter than VRX's and TJ sports models and just as much juice on tap ;)

You don't need anything more than the exec - the rest of hte mods you can do to pump up the power and the performance - whic you would do to anyother model anyways - but the Exec is a cheaper base point and is just as efficient!!

Killbilly.. what you drivin these days? .. My TJ II is big and fat, around 1550kg, but I like it.

A TJ Sports is about 40kg lighter, and I always reminisce that I should have bought one. An extra 40kg of plastic wasn't really worth it. Mind you, the leather steering wheel is nice! :D

Is there such a thing as a TJ Sports Manual?

this answers my question... :D

According to redbook... my vr-x and the Sports are nearly identical.. !!

Hang on, if I compare the Sports Auto with my VR-X auto.. the diff is about 20kilos in weight, and the price when new is about $3,000. 3K for a plastic body kit and some nice wheels. :D

CanberraVR-X,

Sports is identical to the VR-X save the body kit, wheels and the fact that it has "Sports" written on the dials and stitched into the seats.

And yes, there is such a thing as a manual sports, I have one :p :p

RessurectoR,

If you like a bit of luxury hunt down a TJ Series 2 (or Series 1.5 like mine) Sports cos then you get climate control :D , a leather steering wheel and leather gear knob, power windows and whatnot.. otherwise if that doesn't bother you, go a manual exec and change the muffler.

My 97 TF manual Executive should be about the 1440 mark. It being light is it's only luxury, plus my stereo :D

Go Work For Haltech Ben, yes we all know that u are the only one to have it.. but no offence... don't you think it's enough?

I remember someone did some calculations and the Sports outweigh the Exec and VRX in power to weight ratio..

Frankly, my opinion is buy a sports, save the 3K over the VRX, dump a full exhaust system in it and still have Beer Money!!! Or if u have money to spend.. what the heck.. buy a VRX..

Ressurector, you can have my car anytime for 24K :D all mods thrown in :D

Manual

Aye more efficient,
But the seats are different to the Sports and VR-X, theres no climate control, no trip computer, no power windows all round, no power mirrors etc etc... (unless you get the series II models.. but i doubt youll see one for 14k..)

My motto for cars is.. If you are buying a new or newer car it must have more than your current. That goes for engine power and ride comfort..

Ummm my TH has Trip computer, power mirrors, electric arial and climate control!! and it is the exec - it just isn't electric climate control - but still!! (ok i fitted the electric arial A/M)

And as you said - make sure when you buy it is better than previous - i went from a 1983 toyota corolla 1.3L carby with no air con 4 spd manual to a 3.5L 5spd manual TH - oh yeah I was happy!!

No Power windows muahahahahah :D :p I can't survive in a car without the basic "power" things.. Basically it comes down to one main thing.. the $$ for it that's all..

i agreed totally! and how lazy are people becoming?!?! it takes all of two seconds and a little stretch to reach the other winders... the only reason i would take the power windows was if they were lighter than the manual option (true according to subaru, which is why they have power in all their WRX's)

and as for trading up... i went from nothing to a TH Exec (which does have full trip computer)... and it saved my life!!
