hey i need anybodies help.I'v recently had a new headunit installed in my TJ exec and when acc is turned on the sound is fine but when the engine is started there is a static sorta sound coming through the speakers.its not overly loud but its very noticeably and very anoying!does anybody know of any way to fix this because im gettin rather sick of it!also whilst trying to fix this problem i dropped a screw onto a wire and fried out the fuse for the cigarette lighter and the boot open button but i cant seem to figure out what fuse it is in the fuse box.

dood get a flashlight and go over every fuse until you see a broken one, pretty easy but you gotta have a keen eye as they can be broken by only a mm or 2.

as for the static, correct me if im wrong, but check all the wiring to ensure everything is connected properly

yeh on my fuse box it has on the cover pictures showing what all the fuses are but there is no symbol for either them which is kinda strange. but yeh there doesnt seem to be any problem with the wiring or the earth aparently its something to do with a sound filter or something but that is supposed to be built in to the altenator and i had the headunit profesionaly installed also

I think this is usually due to poor grounding of the head unit... i'd be checking that first... does it wind up as you accelarate?

they dont want anything to do with it iv been back and they keep tryin to feed me sum bull**** that its the headunit that is the problem but i know enough about how it works to know that it cant be the headunit because there is no problem unit the engine is on so it has to be a problem with the flow of electricity going in and out

yeh i just read yor post then and i did check the earth and i moved it around a bit it made a slight difference but not much and yes it does change pitch a bit when i accelerate but not volume or anything and it doesnt change how loud it is when i change the music volume either

Yeah I was actually thinking of a relocation of the earth point... as close as you can make it to the HU < 30cm or at least make sure it is exposed bare metal and not insulated or painted... I am cerainly not an expert or saying that's what it has to be, but I have experienced it, and heard the same of others many a time.

I hope you can sort it out.

yeh its currently about 3cm away from the headunit and straight onto metal i scratched away the metal coating a bit that made it a tiny bit better but thats about as good as it gets and i moved it around a bit tryed on the door and even straight to a metal pole in the ground but gets no better then how it is now

he he... sorry, maybe not that close... i was thinking on the transmission housing.

Edit: Earthed it to the door?...pole?... just earth it to a study steel section of the car... it will be sorted out through the car like the other components needing earthing do. Preferably not were you need to scratch the paint away.

its connected to a screw thats just below the houseing of the unit but it doesnt seem to get any better how far i move it away anyways

Just try further down where the gear change console is maybe... under the drink holders... I just meant don't earth it too far away moreso.. onto a Sturdy steel frame.

yeh i see what yor gettin at but its on a solid piece of steel now that is connected to the entire metal body of the car so it aint gonna be gettin any better. and iv had bad experiences with the transmition wiring thats how i burnt the fuse for the other parts coz its like an open connection where they have put a connector for tiptronic for some reason even though its a straight auto

It sounds like one of the Head units wires is a bit close to the Wires of your AC button...
It may require some moving of the Wires behind the head unit

So you don't have an amplifier in the car ?? Just the Head unit ??

Then I would definately look at the Wiring Behind the Head unit as You say its only when the Engine is on..

yeh no amplifier so it cuts down on a lot of what the problems could be. ill have another look at the wiring and stuff 2moro ill take out the whole lot and check it all and keep everything away from the other wires and see what happens then
