In the magna V6's, the plugs in the rear bank should be platinum due to the inconvenience of replacing them (idea being platinum plugs will last 100,000km's hence only replaced at MAJOR service intervals). Front bank only need be standard plugs, and can be replaced very easily (nothing in the way except engine cover in models with one fitted).
If the receipt lists 6x sparkplugs @ less than say $6-8 each - then it sounds like they replaced the rear bank with std sparkplugs. If it lists 3x sparkplugs at this price then they have obviously only replaced the front bank - and the rear bank should still be fine (check service log book for more details on when they should be replaced).
At a guess, platinum spark plugs would cost more than $10 each - if the price of NGK iridiums is anything to go by.

Wont really make much difference if your cars serviced within a specified system, every 10,000K or whatever. I upgraded mine from CHAMPION to NGK as they were wearing, not very expensive and only needed 4 as its a 4cyc.. Easy DIY job.
If your car gives a 'THUMP' when starting Id suggest changing them, I read somewhere that NGK ones should be on most magna's as its a 'Asian Technology' and our cars like Premium Unleaded.
good luck

i dont know why it is "so hard" to take out the rear bank and i find its only slightly harder than the front, i paid abit over 6x20$ each for my iridium tipped ngks. The normal spark plugs won't last as long but you wouldn't notice much in terms of power, my car sounded smoother....

Not sure if the gen2's are the same but on the gen3's the top half of the manifold has to be removed

i got told to remove the manifold but there is no need as you can easily get to them from the side; i just remebered the 3rd gens have the extra cover and stuff....

I have a TJ Magna, and looking to change the leads and plugs myself (well, my father in law will help me :) - mainly to save some money rather than getting my mechanic to do it..
Anyway, I have heard a few people talk about iridium & platinum plugs..whats the difference? One better than the other?
Is it better for me to replace all of them with Iridium/platinum, rather than the back 3?
How hard is it really to do the change? I hear that the top part of the manifold has to be taken off?? Ack!!
Is there any links online that shows specific info on how to do the changes? I don't really want to shell out for a magna "workshop" manual..
Cheers

Sounds like the 3rd gen got back dated. Why did they make it so difficult to change rear plugs? I dont get it. As mine is 4 cylinder I dont worry about it at all. but I nearly got a V6. In which case I still might in the end if I ever upgrade. Sounds like they want you to go to only specialised mechanics so that you can get them changed. Thats not very nice.

You should have a go at replacing the rear spark plugs on a 300zx its a PITA.
