I just got quoted by KMART TYRE & AUTO
$139 for Bendix 'Advance Brakes' for the front - which is ok with me.
But...
Monroe Shocks (not sure what model) for $450 for front!! & $239 for back.. Sound right??
Since I bought the car I havent had to swap them, so im interested in what people paid for theres..

Any Bendix worth having?
Where & What should I get - If I buy the pads I still need somewhere to install them, the price was for installation & pads. (I wouldnt have a clue on changing over pads and no information can help cause I cannot be bothered)
any idea on shocks?

I dont mind buying things seperate, but either way I still have to pay for some one to install them.. the suspension for $450 seems like alot

sorry that is the bendix advance part number, was just giving you the retail price to give you an idea if kmarts price was any good.
The new bendix H.D's (metalking replacement) are meant to be a whole lot better, havent tried them yet though.
Next on my list to try is the EBC black stuffs. If they can supply them.
from personal experience stay clear of the lucas pads as the surface breaks up as they get to half way worn. if you have an enthusiastic driving style
I have been in contact with the company that supplies the pads for our workshop and they sell there own brand pad(RDA) for about $20 for the front set. We use them on saabs and volvo's with good sucess.

hehe thanks...
I have a harsh kind of driving style, depends on how I am feeling when I drive.
I have been told by my dealer (Mitsubishi Footscray) that I have about 10,000K left on my front pads. They also said 20,000K if you drive carefully.
So time for replacement.
I'm also after shock's, I can Here them externally, Bounce each corner the back ones are fine, though the front ones from when I bounce them I can here like a 'Burst of air' any idea if this is normal?
If not they are up for replacement also.

A good test for this is when you bounce it does it stop straight away( should go up then down n stop after you stop pushing) or does it bounce a couple of times. The air sound is quite common in a gas strut

just changed my suspesion, for my tp front struts were $320 monroe gt gas reflex series 15,and the rear was $199 monroe gt gas reflex series 35. as long as u have a jack, socket set and spring claps which u can get for about $30-$40 bucks from supercheap u should be able to do it ur self and save a few hundred bucks on labour.i got the suspension from repco.

I was abit worried about getting these things dont at Kmart Tyre and Auto, but I'm very happy with there service at this particular outlet. The guy was about my age (20ish) and was very helpful.
Had my Disc's machined
New Bendix Advance On
New Monroe Shock's (front) - back ones to be done in another week
(needed new mates)
My old ones were leaking and the acid had eaten them away, I could tell my suspension was pritty much gone.
Feels like a new car.
Get my back two struts on with a free wheel alignment $250 next week.
Then also a couple weeks later will have my 02 Sensor changed and my Injectors changed.
By Decemeber will also have my Auto rebuilt.
And by then will also have some rims with low profiles.
looking good :)
Hey Russian, how much money are you forking out for all of this?
You seem like your doing alot of tinkering with your car man....

Hey,
Well these things cost me a bit.
*Wheel alignment $45.00
*Front Bendix Advance Brakes $139.00
*Front Discs Machined $56.00
*2 X Monroe shocks $450.00
*2 strut mates 2 X $35.00
$760.00
Plus next week 2 back Monroes&mates & wheel alignment. $250
Recently had TPS switch changed $250.00
Also Injectors $150&$50 = $200 and o2 Sensor soon.
It's an older car, 284,000KM's already had one engine re-build.
by time I hit 300,000 I will get a Auto Rebuild & maybe the Engine again.
Also looking at alloys, but depending on how long I keep it for.
Least if I maintain these things I can still get $3,000 or close to.

i recently had my shockies replaced. it cost $610 for 4x KYB lowered shocks fitted with new front bump stop rubbers. if you go to the big name places, they will charge you the earth in labour... try ringing around to the smaller mechanics, they often work for around $40-50 per hour instead of 65-70
if your tight on funds, or want to save a bit, ring around and get prices on fitting only, and then ring around to places like repco, aussie auto, autobarn, kb auto one, etc... and get prices on just buying them.
Also, if you go to one of the smaller mechanics and keep supporting them, you might get better deals when you order the stock through them too.
