hey guys thought id post here just incase someone knows anything about this. My thoughts is its the brakes and the pads need replacing and the disks prob need machining as well but i replaced my brake pads less than a yr ago on the back and front im sure of it but the front definatly need replacing which is getting down tomorrow if all goes to plan.

any help is appreciated and i hope its not wheel bearings which it doesnt sound like to me, is more of a rubbing noise and clearance is ok with every thing in there

cheers

rubbing noise indicates bearings..Chock the car, jack up the problematic wheel, take off the hand brake and spin the wheel manually.. If it is hard to rotate or you hear a reallly bad Rubbing noise it is the Wheel bearing..

also to be noted it doesnt make this sound when in reverse

just dropped it into the mechanics to do the front brake pads as i dont have any spare time to do them myselves and my shed is out of town at the moment till i move into my new house. And they said they will look at it and tell us what it is so its a waiting game for me to see how mch money i blow today

Be interesting to see what it is as my TH did the same thing and i replaced nearly everything back there and could never get to the reason behind it so i sold the car. I hate noises like that.

Lets hope its not the wheel bearings the rears are dear little critters, and from what i understand are genuine only. Tried several bearing places(CBC, SKF, even repco and coventry) None sell them as a aftermarket part. I paid $260 for one rear wheel bearing ouch

well the guy just rung me up and appears to be the hand brake, which buggered why it would go when its only used when i park the car and its always parked on a flat surface so that will set me back another $160 or so so about $300 all up with new brake pads fitted and machine disks as well

hopefully thats all and i dont pay anymore money today will know after lunch sometime
thanks all for your help

Did he say what was wrong with the handbrake as to why it was causing it to whine. There not supposed to make contact unless the car is stopped. Maybe they have been adjusted wrong causing them to bind up and wear prematurely

i had a similar sound comming from my car a few months ago, and it turned out that the handbrake was seased half on or something like that, and yeah, my mechanic said it was due to it being over adjusted or something... cant really remember now...
