Hey all
My TR 4cyl is making a ticking sound. anyone know what it is
kinda speeds up as u rev the engine, and then dissapears at higher revs or if u put the ass into it.
Any ideas????
could it be somthing ot do with the timing?
any ideas would be great
Cheers

The Nimbus has a similar problem, and we are going to get it looked into. One thing we did do that eased the problem was check the oil level in our car. There was hardly any in there! but i discussed that in a nother thread. Check your oil level and top up if necessary. Also, check all your fan belts, it could be a sign that one is about to fail (stress cracks).

I'll guess and say the hydraulic lifters aren't getting enough oil or worn rocker arms?
Lack of oil, or oil pressure seem the most obvious cures.

when was the last time you changed your oil? my mechanic told me that it was common for most mitsu's engines to tick loudly when oil becomes old....

I went to a mecanic and he said it was oil... changed oil and it is still there.

tr's are gettin on in life , try using 25w/60 oil and someone also suggested to me changing the timing chain might stop that noise.
All I know is one day my car starting making a ticking noise and it got bit louder also then next morning day it lost acceleration power.
Is that ticking noise kinda like a cloths sowing machine?
dunno if this is it, but my V6 KR/TR was making a ticking noise, like you described.
What i was told it was, and i dunno wot i am talking about when i try to reguratate this, so i will make it simple (for my sake :D ), is the 'air conditioner clutch'. Something was wrong with the 'magnet' on it, and the 'clutch' was just hitting a belt. It was near the timing chain/belt in my car. Simple and cheap to fix.
well, thats my 1 cent (not helpful enough to be 2cents) :D :D

my TR used to tick but since i replace the oil its fine.
Although when it ticks realy loud all the time then you got self a problem.
i had that when i think one of the values got suck open and hit one the top of one the pistons. but most of the time its just cause by using the wrong oil or the oil being old
using a oil for older cars should also work to fix the prob.
i had the same problem, check your oil, make sure its topped up i was running really low!
went away about 10-15 mins after i topped up
i used mobil 1,
i dont suggest mixing different oils
if u are gonna run mobil 1 and u dont already dump your oil change oil filter and then fill up..
see how this goes...
Matty
P.S. you dont HAVE to change the oil filter

I had the same issue... had no oil in the engine :P
Ignore the weird doofy noise that you hear later on, the engine noise is what you hear from the very beginning.
*laughs at post* amazing how people assume the worst with cars :)
*point at thred* heheh :)
Heh how can yous let your engine go oil dry... Even I check my car every week. :)

i got the same problem at the moment.. but it sounds like the ticking is coming from the fuel injection system. the car is due for an oil change in about 1000.
you recon just change the oil and it'll go away?
OI i have this ticking noise... and my level always says its full!!!
i accidently checked it when the engine was running and it came up empty!!!!
But once stopped and let to settle it went back to full
Not a hijack of sorts :P but just wondering if this is normal!
