I put mine in the 1 din slot below my cd player. You have to take it out to see the screen.

there is a product by belkin i believe that plugs into the cigarette lighter and has one of those bendible arms,(Click Here) (http://store.apple.com/133-622/WebObjects/australiastore.woa/80305/wo/b27b3cQRsL2u3XwwP9b1WgPnWwS/1.0.0.15.1.0.6.9.9.17.0.1.1.1.1.2.1.0.3) that you can mount the ipod to and charge it, then all u would need to do is but a tune cast as well,
For me, i am just going to get an xbox and mod it then run all my mp3 through that and any other thing i want DVD, MPEG, Games etc etc.

as you can see in the pics, i just used some mild steel plate and cut it to size with a jigsaw.
There were holes in my surround already, so i just tapped them out to M4 and fixed the bracket with a couple of pan heads. If u want the dimensions i can measure it, sorry, lost the little drawing i did

Did this awhile ago,
i shoved it in the centre arm rest using a pouch and some double sided velcro.
and
i modified a pda holder for my PDA but the same principal can b used for the ipod.
its a PDA folder, with a modified L bracket screwed to the back. the L bracket is then wedged in to the side of the centre console.
suprisingly this works really well.. as u all know the bridgestone factory tyres are good for ****, ie fun for slipping and sliding and the PDA holder still hasnt budged from its wedged position.
(and i still got 80% tread on front tyres!)

try www.clicon.com.au ... they have a mount for everything ... phones, ipod etc ... and for just about every type of vehicle and usuaully a few mounting positions ... they're very good to use also i use them at work all the time
they retail for about $45 but we sell them at work for $38 i think ... but could prolly do them for $30 + postage for those interested
