Can anyone tell me what colour should be painted on vrx springs?
I know Std springs have green paint.
Also should both front vrx springs be the same height?

I think the front ones are actually different heights... From memory, the drivers one is a fraction taller..... I could be wrong though.

Its not the colour Its the fact that one is 10mm lower than the other one and if its suposed to be that way it mean vrx and executive springs are the same thing. and a waste of bloody money.

But are the spring rates the same? ;)

Maybe when you sit a car on them they will sit lower...

Arent they the same height. I thought the VRX just looks lower because of the mouldings over wheel areches. My GTVi (which has VRX running gear) doesn't look any lower to me than any onther Verada and if it did i would probably put it down to larger wheel diametre.

I think your right, bigger wheels and moulding on the guards make them look lower.
anyone want some VRX springs ?

I put some 2003 VRX springs next to some standard 2001 Executive springs, and the VRX springs were visibly 1-1.5" lower (uncompressed obviously)

VR-Xs (TJs, anyway) are lowered from the Factory. That's partly why you pay the extra 10K+ for one. Dunno about the original colour though. Mine is further lowered on King springs which are yellow (matches the car colour, nice touch).

Sports/VRX's have a 10mm drop in ride height over standard magnas. The front spring rate was the same as standard models but the rear springs were of a stiffer rate and the sports/VRX came with a factory rear sway bar which no other factory TE-TJ magna did, also the bushes in the rear crossmember and control arms were of a stiffer compound (or higher dura as its known).

As we all know that in a FWD car ya stiffen up the rear (stiffer bushes, rear springs and swaybar) to help curb understeer and in a RWD car ya do the opposite (stiffer front springs and bigger front swaybar).

If anyone remembers the write up on the first TF sports model, it stated what MMAL had done to the rear suspension to make it handle better then the standard models. :)

Yes, this would make sense. Aren't the VRX/GTVi springs a firmer spring? hence harder riding, better handling etc. Hence they (VRX/GTVi springs) would not compress as much as a standard Executives springs would when fitted without necisarily affecting the vehicles ride height? I'm sure The VRX only looks lower, what with the sideskirts, bumpers, moulding over wheel arches and 17" wheels......

however, the KJ GTV and GTVi also came with this rear sway bar along with the bushes in the rear crossmember and stiffer control arms

I know they did.
I was actually refering to magnas not the verada. The GTV/GTVi was basically sports/VRX spec suspension.

All is good :P

Okay I just fitted a full set of 02 VRX springs to my 01 Solara. The fronts were marked with a yellow stripe, and the rears with a pale green stripe and both fronts and both rears were the same height when off the car. Having done all that - the car now sits about 30mm lower so the VRX definitely does sit lower - its not just an optical illusion from the plastic mouldings. Oh yeah - they're stiffer as well but not as much as you'd think - unless, as I suspect, they have a variable rate to them (which could also explain why they're the same height as standard springs when they're off the car as such).
