Hi there. I have a problem with the Auto on my 92 V6 Verada. I only have third gear. First and second are no where to be found. The car also seems to be idling slow when stopped in gear. I pretty much know that the outcome will mean spending big bucks to have it fixed but thought I would find out if anyone had this problem before. The car is going to need a service soon as well and wondering if anyone had a mechanic in South Australia they would recommend and wont cost an arm and a leg.

the guy i use in gawler is excellent (Gerry's mechanical) just a little plce, he runs by himself, so no overheads or huge profits or anything, just charges for parts and labour (cheap!) when i fried the head on my old 1982 mazda 929, he fixed the whole thing for about $700 (about about 4-500 of that was getting the head machined and re-welded by someone else coz he didn't have the tools to do it) so if a straight swap is what you're after, he's very good.... also depends on where in SA you happen to be!

I think that means the gearbox is in failsafe mode (read: auto computer stuffed). Check with a Mitsubishi dealer though, there may be something you can do to the diagnostic connector under the bonnet to tell you this.

Hmm, thanks guys. I have tried to access the computer codes using the key on key off method they use for the Diamante but it didn't work. Anyone have a manual handy with details on how to get them on the Aussie version?

Have you tried disconnecting the negative terminal from the battery?
This usually acts as a hard-reboot for the ECU and usually fixes things like this if it isnt mechanical.

Yep tried that and left all possible electrics switched on for an hour just to make sure all power was drained, did not do anything helpfull. I am not too happy about going to the Mitsi dealer to find out what is wrong as the last time the car was serviced they told me I was using the wrong plugs, the same ones they put back in! so I do not trust them any more
Your trans is in what they call limp home mode. The computer does it when it gets wrong messages from the pulse generators(sensors)that operate the trans. So get more than one opinion, I have had the same thing happen, and been told that my trans was stuffed.(rip off bastards). $60 later and a new sensor it is running properly.

Thats what I was hoping someone would say. It just didn't seem like there was any slippage or noise from the trans so was hoping it was something electrical
