Anyone here had their 3rd generation Magna lowered for more that 12 or 18 months? Just wondering if anyone has experienced any problems with CV's, transmission or other drivetrain / suspension problems?

I have had my TF loward for almost 2 years now, and have had no problems at all. I have Pedders springs :D

Excessive tyre wear...
It caused my shocks to deteriate more quickly.

**edit** I then got the shocks to suit the lowering and now they have been good for a year with no sign of problems.

I origionally put in Pedder's Superlow ... and then about a month later I put on a set of Spring compressors.. so it lowerd my car 3" front and rear!
It looked SWEET!!!! :D
But then I got my dam kit and I had to raise it back up :(

Oh, only 76 mm :)
Pimpin Fooya, what about you?

Actually at one point I was 89mm lower than stock.
But this was with the new shockies and the coil overs.

Someone was saying that with Magna's, even lowering an inch will put excess strain on the CV's etc and will eventually cause problems. So, I thought I'd ask around to see if anyone had seen such issues.
Having the steering wheel turned with full throttle is a lot worse BTW.

TF has been lowered for 5 years and 2 months.. nearing 3 months now, Only problem we had was we didn't change the shocks at first to suit the springs so it was rough as a M/F.. then we changed to a Monroe setup.. then the old man didnt like it, so it has stockies in there now, they were the old ones so they've had a good 4.5yrs use. No problems so far!

Guess it's not the time but the kms what are relevant. Sorry Redav - had to put a slice of smartass there..... ;)
Pedders Sports Ryder 50 mm (if I remember correct) what I have are pretty much the lowest ones can do without having camber probs - and mine are fine!
CV probs with lowering? Hmmmm - dunno and don't quite understand why would it affect it. It only might change the angle of the drive shafts, but they are meant to function ok in any angle anyway.
Correct me if I'm wrong. But keep them flamethrowers down - my nephew is in firebrigade.... 8)

I was saying in another post that I have seen CV's after lowering sufer not because of strain but because of previous wear.
on one car here in Melbourne I did 2 shafts withing 4 weeks, another a shaft that when removed and cleanded looked like it had been dragged behind the car.
mine is another example of this.
I am not saying this was THE problem in the other post but was saying it COULD be a part of it.

So, get them inspected before the work is carried out?
So, get them inspected before the work is carried out?
The place where my brother does his apprenticeship's had a stock ride height car kill a few CV joints within a very short period of time. It's not the ride height that kills them.

If km's have part to do with it.. then..
Springs in the TF - 98726km
Shockies have done about 4000km's less, due to the old man swapping standard to monroe and back to standard for some weird reason.. :?
Not sure why he changed but yeah.. the TF CVs are fine and all that, only problem with it is this like rattle in the boot that nobody knows WTF it is..
Anyways, thats the 2c on the TF

alll the road bumps isnt felt by the shocks, its felt by the driver and passengers!

You can achieve the same effect by putting onthe flares... the flare kit lowers the arches by about 1" and therefore make you car look lower...
At the same time you can put on a body kit and have it at the respectable level of 100mm off the ground ... but due to the flare kit it would look the same as if it was only 75mm off the ground... you understand?

Well I reckon the flares look great.... and they will help with your problem...
Casue I tell you now... you lower your car PIMP style and tehn "try" and put a kit on it...... and you will not get over a slug without scrapping the front out of your kit!.
Haydn
