I know almost everyone on here has a lot of audio/video in there car but never hear any thing about aftermarket grounding packages. I mean the kind you can get off of ebay and other auto stores. Ive heard they actually work to, better ground as it distributes the neg. charge better. I know a couple guys at diamanteowners have em but dont know if any one on the "other side" :bowrofl: has em. Talk to you later guys.

The aussie "performance buildups" mag a couple of months ago had a write up on a aftermarket 'earth' kit - which they incidently tested on a TJ Ralliart Magna. These guys are pretty serious performance tuners (both V8 aspirated and hi-tech), and stated that in the beginning they thought these things were a P.O.S (keeping in mind they were actually testing the 'performance properties' of such a system).
They dynoed the car, then fitted the kit, dynoed it again and had picked up 4kW. They then played around with different earth points in the engine bay - and managed to eventually pick up 8kW above the first dyno figure.
Needless to say I was very interested to read this - especially for the fact that these results were achieved on 'one of ours'. I made a mental note - and am considering at some stage in the not to distant future, taking the mag down to a local performance tuning shop and asking their opinion on the results - with a view to seeing if they can be replicated on my vehicle.
If enough ppl are interested - I'll consider scanning the article and posting up in this thread...... I hate using the scanner, so I wanna see some EOIs before I'll plug it in.
As far as what these kits do for a vehicle with heavily modified ICE - that's not my area of expertise, sorry.

From memory it was called "black earth" or "sun earth" or something...... I'll scan the article this afternoon - cause I know it sounds unbeliveable. Check back in a about 7 hours....

you can get these things off ebay pretty damn cheap 2. And also not hard to install at all.
Install time is prolly an hour.

Interesting - did they give a reason as to *why* it gave a performance increase?
Would be very interested to see the article...

i dont really rate them. if it were that easy why wouldnt manufactures do it? plus i have tried and had to make custom earths for many cars, its definatly no merical fix for 8kw (unless you have faulty earths atm)

Okay - here it is....... my recollection wasn't entirely accurate, but I'll let y'all read for yourselves and discuss.....

If you found this article worthwhile - I recommend purchasing Performance Buildups magazine available from all good newsagents (not that issue tho....)
erm..
first image, middle column, bottom paragraph:
"Now hungry for power, we pulled the air turbo from the intake and ran it up again,..."
what's he talking about? air turbo?
oh, an earth kit is just a bunch of thick cabling like, 4ag or even 0ag cable isn't it?

I believe they were referring to the factory snorkel which funnels air from the upper grill to the airbox - there is a pic or two showing it removed from the engine bay. Hard to believe they picked up kW by removing it - I guess it would only work in a dyno environment with the cars bonnet up and the fan blowing into the engine bay.
