hey guys
Apart from my http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25475 thread, i have another question/s about Magnas to ask. Since im new to Magna and new to servicing. My cars pretty much nearing the 30k mark. I think its 29500 or so atm. Anyhow, anybody have a rough idea how much will the service cost at the dealer and should i or is it worth it ticking any of those optional boxes in the book like wheel changes etc...
Question #2. How easy or how hard is it to change oil and filter on a TL Magna? From my understanding so far these great cars respond really well with fresh oil regulary, so im kind of thinking doing my own bit of servicing in between 15k intervals. Im just thiking in general, such as oil, oil filter, and air filter possibly if needed. I only have a rough idea how to do all this but not an expert for sure.
Thanks

If you are still under Warrenty let the dealers do it. It is very easy and sometimes fun to do this oil change yourself. And one advantage is you know what type and quality of Engine oil you are using. Eg from Semi Syn oils to fully Syn. BTW you are suppose to change nearly every 5k intervals or half a year whichever comes first.
I would suggest you let your dealer do it as your TL is new. Let them do the normal checks and etc. Its very unlike some of us the 96-00 models which have our warrenty expired and then you should consider who to bring it to for servicing. From my knowledge they are not much chaper even in places like Auto Tune or Auto Masters etc.
For me, any basic Maintainance like Changing of Oil, Oil filter, Air Filter, Fuel filter,Spark plugs, changing of lights, can be done if you have the right tools easily.
If you still insist that you want to do the oil change yourself, here are some tips:
You can buy the oil filter off mitsubishi as they are indeed one of the cheapest.
Minimum grade oil to use for such a new car should be Semi Syn oils such as Castrol Magnetic or Shell Helix Plus or Mobile Sythetic S. Fully Syn oils would be even better such as Mobil 1 5-50W or Shell Helix Ultra 5-40W or any equalivant grade.
Remember to buy the O-ring for your oil dump nut. its also known as a washer.
get a proper socket to do this loosening and thightening. Have proper jacks or wheel ramps to do this. Yeah get a oil filter wrench which cost about $6.00 max
You may also use some of those Engine flush fluid to do a proper flush.
I can do a photo shoot the next time round or anyone else here could do it to show how to do this oil change procedure.
Think there should be a sticky in the tech thread for all these procedure as many would like to know how to do it.

Try and keep your car logbooked, it makes a difference when you go to sell it. Just get a professional mechanic to do it and stamp the books - doesn't need to be done by Mitsubishi, just get them to use geniune parts.
I'm sure Mitsubishi would be delighted to use the "home handyman shouldn't have changed the oil" excuse to get out of warranty.

it should be a 24mm, as I did mine yesturday.
Note: went to 2 auto parts shops friday, couldnt get an oil filter for it, super cheap wanted 13 bucks for it, but had none in stock (Ryco).
I went accross to local mitsi shop, got a genuine mitsi one for $11.50, in stock
Not complaining there, some things arnt that expensive compared with the auto stores afterall
