Hey all...
Still chasing the poor acceleration problem in the AWD - getting frustrated here, the dealer just checked for codes on the computer - I mean FFS, it is an engine, it does have parts that aren't controlled/checked by the computer - fuel pressure for instance.
Has anyone had issues with bad fuel filters (ie. clogged) and if so, what have the symptoms been?
The local Mitsubishi dealership says that it is too soon for a fuel filter to go, but I recieved the car with the fuel light on, and the guage stuck at empty, suggesting that this wasn't exactly an uncommon occurance - possibly the tank had been run dry...
Getting cranky with the dealers on this one. Considering trading it for something with power... Grrr... That new ebay engine is sure looking good...

Time for a new dealer - sounds like the problem lies there rather than with the car itself. Whats the warranty your dealing with? If its one of those second hand car warranties then their usually not worth the paper their printed on.
Changing the fuel filter would have have been a natural solution I would have thought - also consider the O2 sensor? What about the air filter?
What fuel are you running it on? If your using optimax, try switching to Mobil8000/BP Ultimate for a few tanks (its the same thing). Obviously try different servos too if you haven't already.

What dealership in NSW are you dealing with here?

Dealership is in Glendale, Newcastle. Hunter City Mitsubishi Glendale.
Odd thing is that I started it today and the power has seem to have returned a little.
Mentioned it to the dealer and he suggested it was due to the computer learning ?? Errr... Ok...
Warantee is factory new car.
Its in again(!) for a new steering column and seals for the wind noise (really annoying).
Thinking of changing the O2 sensor and fuel filter anyway - dealer wants quite a bit of $$ to do this, surely isn't that hard. Air filter is brand new, and apparently all of the sensors are OK (from MUT-II). Plugs were changed recently (as in 1 month ago).

F^&* that for a joke!
Mate, it's warranty! - there appears to be an issue, they should at least try changing those sensors - even if it's just with their demo car, to see if it causes an improvement.
Fuel filter would be a wareable part, hence probably wouldnt be covered provided it's not faulty.
Get a new dealer - is that the only one in Newcastle? Maybe take it to Gosford, or next time your in Sydney take it to Ryde Mitsubishi, their great, a complete opposite to the poor service I received from the other dealer on the north side of sydney.

I definatley think half your problem is the dealer. I am going to say to you that my, and i know of several others, experience with Hunter City at Glendale has been very bad. I have been told by someone who may  or may not work for the Hunter City Group that the Glendale service Department is kind of like a seperate "franchise" for lack of a better term. It has been suggested to me that the Hamilton service dept it 100% better. I dont know this about Hamilton from experience but i have had work done ONCE at Glendale and from my experience they were prety poor. I could tell you a story about an old guy i knew who bought a Nissan (though we wont hold this against him :D ) X Trail new from them. No end of trouble, to the point where there could have been a number of serious accidents, and after you would think they would fall over themselves to repiair (or install correctly) the things that weren't right, not them. You only need to take a look at the workshop at Hamilton which appears prety spot on to me when i have gone there to purchase parts etc.
Its up to you but Glendale are well known in the area as rip off merchants. I think there is a member here that works at Hamilton. I started a thread when i first joined asking about Mitsu service in Newcastle, maybe look it up, someone told me there was a member who worked there and to PM them for his name.

heathyoung, sorry to hear of your troubles.
Guys, I'm told the O2 sensor is very unlikely to go & it needs to return a signal within a voltage band. Even if it does break, it they are designed to trigger the engine fault warning light.
I agree with GTVi guy, seems to me the dealership should sort this out satisfactorily and do the right thing. The car is under warranty. They're seem to be forcing your hand to spend more money, and buy another car.

I think that chancging dealers is a good start, they seem very reluctant to fix things...
The wind noise is really starting to $hit me off, and the service manager claims that he cannot hear it (but the other people in the workshop can).
I would have thought that mitsu would have paid the workshop for all warantee work.

Wind noise? This car must have been in a crash.

No, I had it inspected prior to purchasing by a crash repairer.
Apparently, the wind noise is common on this model, comes from around the mirror/sail area.
Quite annoying too - they have replaced the door rubbers, and this still hasn't fixed it.

Sounds like a frustrating problem, have you considered the driveline at all? Could it be the gearbox isnt picking up the gears or there is too much slip with the torque converter? Im not 100% sure how these AWD systems work but thats worth a thought.
I doubt it would be your 02 sensor these are generally pretty tough and as point out earlyier if they are off your check engine light will pop up.
Fuel filter is worth a look but very unlikely that its clogged even if run down to the end of the tank as its so new there wouldn't be anything in there yet.
I hope you get it sorted mate!
