I just spoke to the guy at HBF and he said the car will be covered as long as the car's suspension and wheels are within the car's specifications set by mitsubishi. I assume this has to do with ride height, wheel diam etc...

He basically said as long as its roadworthy according to the police and all specifications of the car are within that set by mitsubishi and no modifications are done to the engine, the car is covered.

All I want to know is what are the mitsu specs on ride height and wheel diameter for my 98 tf wagon? If my car complies with these, it should then be roadworthy and covered by HBF.

How big can my rims be and how low can my car be?

Cheers guys,

Danno

Depending on your age, generally the rule is, two inches bigger in diameter for rims, 1 inch wider with a similar rolling diameter, 1 inch lower for the springs. Anymore then that and they send you to shannons.

i had my insurance cancelled by nrma cause my stereo was worth to much which was a blessing in the end ... i ended up going to Elders and they insured the car for market value and the mods on the car for $20,000 ... i asked him about the wheels which are only 18" and he said "i dont give a rats what size they are" same as the superlow suspension

all this for a whopping $42 a month which includes a free windscreen per year

at the moment its insured by my mum with me down as a driver, because both are names are down on the rego as owners. anyways im paying 97.50 a month at the momeny.

aw man...

What I'd love to know, is if my car is on lows allround, and has 17's, will I be covered? I shouldn't get a sticker, but if I crash will they turn around and go- no we're not giving you anything.?

lol yeah I know HBF is not cheap even though if they want to cover. I think the moment you change rims they are going to increase cost of insurance naturally, due to tendancy of your tyres may get stolen or think that you want to speed. You can try SGIO, not cheap, as I heard. I am under QBE but currently is stock, will change rims in time to come.

Has anyone had hassles with insurance companies over rims and lowering?

I pay so much for insurance as it is, why don't they just leave me alone

lol

Apprently most of the companies are like that, and they follow the trend of what other companies do. This is something that slowed me down in considering moding my rims.
