Hi,

I've been getting quite noticeable vibrations from my 3.0L TF when idle. All previous post about this problem were for 3.5L engines. It only has 80K on it.

What are the likely causes? I've tried the following to fix it:

Replaced the spark plugs
Cleaned the throttle body (you could eat off it)
Cleaned the distributor points
Replaced the air filter
Replaced the timing belt (well Mitsubihi did that)

What should I do next?

Replace the distributor cap and spinning thingo?
Replace the ignition leads?
Replace engine mounts?
Replace throttle position sensor?

Cheers,

I have one of those annoying rough idleing 3.5l in my KH.

Have replaced all those parts you have done to no avail.

I have found this great mechanic at one of the local dealerships and he is 90% sure it is the rear engine mount. He said there was a design fault with the one in my car so he is going to replace it with the updated mount that is meant to get rid of the vibration.

It goes in tomorrow so i will hopefully have a smooth idling 3.5 by the end of the day. For some reason i'm not getting my hopes up but he seems confident this will fix the issue.

Will let you guys know how it goes.

Whats the price like for replacing Engine mounts?
Its not just 3.0 or 3.5L my 2.4L has this slight vibration thing though I can live with it as it is very mild but sometimes can be obvious and I have to switch to N for my auto and everything is smooth.

yo, this is a problem in most magna's eventually.

The spinny thingo in a Distributor cap is called a 'rotor'

Change your TPS (throttle position sensor) and check your PCV valve, will make alot of difference.

If fuel economy is bad, clean Injectors/change (Reco ones from repco) and change the O2 sensor.

Not to costly.

Ditto on the engine mounts.

MY side engine mount for my Verada has a premature crack in it, and Im assuming thats probably the cause of the slight vibration whilst idling.

I shall be repalcing that soon.

A new engine mount, I got quote for $130

I called the wreckers and I got quoted $120......

Hmmmmz Yes....I think im buying new!

Sometimes I wonder if the wreckers think we are stupid? In fact a lot of these prices they quote it riddiculas as they bought the whole wreck at so much less.

I've just cleaned out the PCV valve on my TF 3L and the idle is now brilliant!

I've put up a post recently in the "Tech" arena that goes into some depth about this. Hope this is helpful. It's certainly a very cheap and easy check to complete.

Sweet!

I might try doing this then!

Although, how did you clean it?

Open EZ Boy profile and do a read on what he has posted, you will find that he have given pics of how the PVC looks like. I could locate mine on the 2.4L engine.
The thing is mine is giving good suckion, and it looks clean, Do I have to take it out to clean?

oh how do you check the Engine mounts pls? anyone got picture of where I should look?

Cheers!

Had the new mount put in and it has made a huge difference. Still not 100% but much much better. They also reset the base idle which i have had done before and they also checked the TPS and APS which they said were all fine.

Cost me $240 for rear mount fitted, base idle check and set and check tps and aps. Best $240 i've ever spent. Can live with the idle now unlike before where it shook the whole car.

I cleaned the PCV (it was stuck), but it didn't really help the idle.

I might try the distributor and throttle position sensor next.

Thanks for the help.
