My TH fuel light gives me atleast 50-60km once its on, can be up to 100km Ive heard depending on fuel consumption. You will know when its really low if you go round a corner and it cuts out ;)
This question will never be answered accurately as there are so many variable factors involved.
Ie - engine revs, condition of various parts (fuel injectors etc), which all relate to fuel consumption.
Also the light comes on and off a few times and then comes on solid. You might park on a hill and no light and then drive on flat road and light comes on.

You SHOULD be able to get 20k's on it, depending on how you drive. Ive had to do that a couple of times..... :redface:

there is at least 10-15l of fuel left when my light comes on as I have never been able to put more than 50litres of fuel in it. So at the minimum 50km but I wouldnt push it.

Well the other day I drove to whoop whoop with my fuel light on. Stayed on for about 80km of my trip. Filled up with $10 as soon as I could get to a 24hr petrol station (This was 1 in the morn) and well the needle didnt even go above the first notch :D

The fuel light comes on when the needle is dead on empty. Its kind of like a reserve. Your not truly low until the light comes on and stays on, at first it will only come on with hills and such, and its not much to worry about. I know ive driven from Penrith to Winmalee on solid light. I was freaking out the whole way but made it.

Damn thats lucky..
Since the fuel prices have been so high, me and my fuel light are getting to know each other more and more...

Q.
How far can you get when the fuel light has just come on ??
A. Until the petrol tank is empty =D
the light is like a warning telling you fuel is getting low, then once the tank is 'empty' you still have a small amount in reserve. but of course the consumption of fuel depnds on so many things its impossible to give a km value.

71L tank....light on....fill up to absolutely full dripping out the side shake the car so u can't get anymore in there full...63L (at $1.30/L!!)
therefore...8L still in tank
sooooooooo...like everyone says...20km easy unless ur hurting it on twisty roads where it might cut out due to "sloshing" of fuel away from pickup in tank
btw...does anyone know why running out of fuel damages the Cat-converter as i have herd??

no its not impossible, you can figure out the milage your car gets right? exactly. im not sure since i have a diamante, but this isnt a motor cycle eaither, you dont have a "reserve" tank, when the tanks empty the tanks empty. the only gas you have left is in the fuel lines.

i never said 'reserve tank' i said 'reserve'...the manufacturer account for the fact that ppl will drive to the E and thus make the calibration of the needle to still have petrol in the tank when on E...just like ur speedo is always slow =)

u cannot just depend on milage if u do, gd luck.I believe also that when your tank reach E there is still some left. not that is advisable to do it. just fill your tank when it reaches before E. For the reason why its never good to fill the tank when its till last drops is because there might be residue in the remaining drops making it bad. your fuel filter may not always be able to catch all this dirt.
always do an average check on how much fuel is being used, never push it to the max.

Slightly of topic here but just wondering: when you guys fill your tank and start the car, the trip computor displays your estimated range to empty( based on your recent driving paterns).
When I first got my car it would always read 480 k's till empty. Nowadays I get 510 from a tank and im driving the car fairly hard . I have a free flowing exhaust and c.a.i. and filter-would the car be adjusting to the better breathing capability and therefore be running more efficiently and so get the extra k's from each tank?

just did a calculation on how far my car will run in the city.
1L = 8.6km
71L= 610km +-
However this week I drove more aggresively so maybe thats why. But I be honest, I never go all the way to 600km before filling the tank. I pumped at 484kms today. and did this rough calculation. Its still ok IMO but wished it was more economic.

Ideally your supposed to have about 70km in the country or 20km in the city to fill up once the fuel light goes on - but like most things, everyone's gauge will have a slightly different tollerance.
Considering the sedimentation and crap that lies at the bottom of most fuel tanks, it's usually a good idea to avoid driving them below 1/4 full. If you do drive to empty, just shove some Wynns though every now and again.

i never let my car go that low. pump picks up all the crap down the very bottom of the tank that way. but thats my theory anyways :)
