ok lots of ppl are going to say "mate your an ass-clown..." for asking this but here goes:
i have read a couple of times (maybe complete bs but thats why i thought id ask ppl with more skill than me) that a GM LS1 fits into a nissan 240sx.
Is it true? im aware engine change overs are tricky and expensive, but what im more or less asking is, does the motor fit onto the engine mounts etc?
thanks in advance
PS i have no real intentions of doing this im just curious
Try asking this question to someone on the LS1 forums or streetcommodores forums. They would probably have a better idea.

Most likely not if thats what you want to know. You probably need to make your own Engine mounts to do it, not that is not possible its probably something that even a mechanic wont even do as this is more like a experiment than a normal thing. And not saying that this is possible either, just too much work and calculations involved.
Do you mean the old 70's 240z. I've been told that they are pretty popular for engine swaps because the engine bay is so big. I've seen a few with v8's getting around.

Bro I put a 350 chev in a 78 jag and brought a kit to fit this thing in and it was still a pain in the arse, I would never go down that road again even though it all worked out in the end and the car went like a rocket it was just to much effort and time.

Anything at all is possible, it all depends on how much effort you're going to have to put into it. Pretty much any engine swap is going to need custom made engine mounts at the very least. Depending on the motor and the car, be prepared to modify/remake/move almost everything in the engine bay and beyond.

your an ass clown :booty:
haha na seriously
the engine would be far too heavy to do a straight swap, you'd need a whole new front end and that would mean the vehicles balance would be put out of whack.
as a result you'd need to do the following as a requirement just to get it running and driving right:
- front end (suspension and steering components inc. axles)
- rear suspension
- mounts
- clutch, box, shaft, diff, axle, brakes
- body mods to fit these under the floor pan
- radiator (inc. body mods to fit larger radiator)
- fuel tank to accomodate body mods and new diff and axle
- fuel pump, all the other things that you'd have to replace with larger ones to suit a V8
- Chassi reinforcement (a little car like that would twist to pieces with the torque offered by a V8
- headers and exhaust and body mods to suit
Then to make it legal, you'd have to get it all engineered and certified...
For that price, go buy an XR8. It'll cost less and go faster lol

There's an article here (http://www.autospeed.com/cms/A_0505/article.html) that talks about a 240z kicking about with a 540ci big block chev in it  There's another article here (http://www.autospeed.com/cms/A_2655/article.html) about bolting an RB26DETT into a 260z.
Looks like there's some good potential with those cars. I'd be surprised if the mounts lined up.. you'd probably need new ones.

Then you'd still have to get that bucket of a 6 spd manual in there to (No one would put an auto in there)
Question is why would you even think of the idea, the Gen III would weigh more than 2 times more than a sr20, which would upset the weight distribution/handleing/drifting ability.
But the low down torque on the other hand that youd get from it....

the alloy LS1 weighs just a tad more than the original cast 4cyl block ive heard
as for steering the LS1 is has a rear oil sump and the 240sx is rear steering so u would have to get a new oil pan.
as for cooling and petrol, u can buy lots of bigger aftermarket radiators and fuel pumps for any jap cars esp nissan...im sure thats the least of the problems
the drivetrain im not so sure about :doubt:
keep them engine replacement stories coming guys =D and pics =)
