Im getting a 91' verada ei of my grandfather this year for christmas and atm it is making a clicking noise next to the glovebox near the door. It does this then the engine just dies. I was told by the NRMA that it was the fuel pump relay and that we should get a new one but we went to mitsubishi and they checked it and said that it is all fixed and it wasnt the fuel pump relay. That night i went with my grandfather for a drive and it clicked and then the whole car died. The only way to start the car again is to leave it for about 2 minutes then it will work fine.
Does anybody have any idea what is wrong with it or how to fix it?
(cars only done 150,000kms)
Thanks

I bet in that time the Fuel Pump has not been changed? I would say its not the relay, its the actual fuel pump, often you can still drive for a bit then it cuts off, eventually it will die all together, and might even damage the ecu.

the fuel injector control relay clicks everytime the cars turned on, but i dont think you can hear that without the dash off...
take it back to mitsu and whine and ***** that they didnt fix the problem ie try not to give them more money although they didnt fix the problem

My Sister Had The Same Problem Which Ended Up Being The Ecu.
It Gave Her A Warning(clicking Sound).
The Next Day The Car Was Making The Same Clicking Sound But Would Not Start
It Ended Being The Ecu .
Next Time It Does This Disconnect A Plug Lead And Earth It And See If There Is Any Spark.

you can hear the noise even with the dash on. It just dies completely the car will jsut roll to a stop. A new ecu is $700 and the fuel pump relay is $240 do u reckon it could be these or do u think that it could be the fuel pump and how much would it cost.
Thanks
BTW it has been happening for about 5 months

you can check both, ecu is probably easiest... turn everything off, disconnect the battery and take out the ecu, near where passengers left foot is behind the dash. Unscrew the cover off the ecu and smell for burnt plastic ect...then check for any physical signs of faults on the circuit.
Control relay you have to pin point with a multimeter

For that period of time its quite suprising, how often is the car driven?
Id say its the relay, not the ecu as yet, like I said if its not changed and it is the relay it often damages the ecu. But you can repair it at most auto elecs.
From where you are now, take it back to Mitsubishi and get them to look at it again, change what they say it is.

Hey My Tr currently has the same problem only difference I think is that mine clicks under the glovebox and cuts the engine off.(but in idle) when Im driving even doing say 30kph it clicks but doesnt cut the engine. The revs just go down to 0rpm and then spike back up..I was told it was the ecu too.So if you change the ecu could you tell me if the new ecu has fixed your problem? Also there is a thread on here somewhere that says there are reconditioned ecu's with 3 month warranty for $175 or something.

This happens with the fuel pump/relay, however most Auto electrical places can repair the ECU if thats the problem.
Also could be the battery?

well asked a friend (ex NRMA) and he said maybe one of the connections could be dry and he reckoned it was the one from the ECU to the Fuel Pump Relay or something, he sprayed some WD-40 on it and it hasnt happened since. So if it keeps running ill be happy. My grandfather just bought an 2004 ES Magna Brand new so the car will be mine within a week.
Expect to see alot more of me around here.
Thanks for everything guys
