Hi All
New to the site and find it quite informative. Now the nitty gritty...I picked up a 1987 Magna as a second vehicle to get me from home to work....but.....being 40 i have reverted to being a rev head again!
So am I on the right track so far?
1. Having a set of extractors put in with a 2.25 inch straight through system to get that bit more punch.
2. Webber Carby.
3. Set of mags with rubber to match.
4. Lowered just a touch for that grunt look.
Question 2?
I have a 5 speed gearbox that is ok but grinds bad when i go back into first. I want to upgrade. Whats best?

sound good so far, wouldnt know what to do with your manual, but id like to know aswell as ill be converting to a manual soon hopefully.
3steps ahead of me too :doubt:
....only just got the extractors on....
The grinding of the gearbox is just the synchro is gone on first.
Jetting on the Weber seems to be the only point of caution on that list. I can't help, as I'm an injection boy myself.

Ill have to think hard on what jets i used, 127 and 180 i think, could be wrong.
exhaust and headers will make a nice gain, but make sure the exhaust is mandrell bent and you have 2 straight thought mufflers or it WILL be too loud. 2.25" is ideal for such a big 4.
think about a cam regind aswell and with those mods you should be able to scrape a 15 second pass :D

oh where are you from hammer?
Put some Motul gear 300v in ur gearbox, made my gearbox feel good as new.

any new oil does that, use std stuff its cheaper.

New oil doesnt always fix the problem, mine still does it, hence the reason for a new box for me. If you can live with it it isnt all that bad :)

Ok.....to answer a question where Ilive..I'm in Brisbane but I'm a Tassie boy..yeah, yeah I know!
Update on my toy....it basically stopped this morning! Started fine but after I got going and put the throttle down it started jerking and basically stopped. it seems that it's not getting enough fuel when I increase accelerator hard. Anyone got any ideas?
Exhaust is being mandrell bent by the way.
Hammer427
Hey! Whats wrong with Tassie??
Anyway the first i would check/change is your fuel filter, only a couple of dollars from a service station.

No it doesnt, I had standard stuff in mine and it crunched like hell. changed to the motul and it was perfect, u get what u pay for..... u dont run ur car with Home brand oil in it do u?? im sure it would do the job and it is cheaper.....

if oil passes the sae and api standards and is the same grade ill use it. I use Castrol/Mobil Super HP 20w50 at $12 dollars a bottle. works great too considering i have no PCV setup, rev to 8200, runs rich, gets ringed at a race track, and is my daily sometimes.
im not a real believe in merical oils personaly, from experience.
I had a manual 5, crunched on 2nd and 3rd! I didn't think that 1st had a sync? wouldn't be often I'd be trying to shift to 1st while moving anyway.

Still haven't sorted out the beast yet. It's finding time! I shall check the fuel filter and lines first and see how that turns out. It may be the time to put the webber on now, if I'm having trouble with fuel etc?

Ok...it was the fuel filter clogged up. There is a heap of crap in there, which also means it's through the system and carby. Don't know where it's coming from. Maybe fuel tank. Its fine dirt like grit......any ideas?

i think its from your tank, maybe letting it get to empty,or the pump at the servo was due to be filled .id just replace the filter and take it from there.after all its the filters job to catch the crap.

the jets on my weber i have in atm are 132 primaries and 210 secondaries. these jets gave near perfect air/fuel ratios at cruising speeds and on wide open throttle.
my car is easily capable of a 16.x second pass. just has the weber with those jets in it, a reground mild cam, 2.5" exhaust (much too big for an N/A car, but i was gunna turbo), open air circular filter and a scoop with a custom airbox.

There shouldnt be too much dirt in the carby, the whole purpose of the filter is to stop the crap from the tank getting into the engine. Hence why the filter gets blocked.
