well anyway im not blind, but after i installed my stereo yesterday, i mighta hooked up one of the wires wrongs, coz my dashboard and my back lights arent working anymore. i dont know wats happening, i think i put the ground wire onto the illumination wire, sooo i think it might be shorting it out, coz when i put some 30amp fuse wire in the font where the tail light fuse goes under the bonnet, it just just went red hotto show that it was shortening out...??? do u think that this could be the problem? i hope it is, coz then all i haveta do is find a different ground for my stereo?

if u dont know what yur doing its best to leave it to the "pro's". But really its not that hard, u get the installation booklet with your headunit, it tells what every wire on the headunit is, all u need to do is workout which are the matching wires in your car. If u have a workshop manual this is really easy, if not, get a Volt meter.
To Find your Power Cable (usually red), have the ignition all the way off, and test the wires by connecting one end of the Voltmeter to the wire, and the other to a part of the carbody. The one which has approximately 12v +- .5v is your power cable. Once you know this put it aside, tape it up.
Finding your Accesories Power (ACC) is just as easy, switch your ignition to the ACC position and find the wire which has 12v now.
Earth Cable is normally black so this is easy to find, but to be sure, switch your voltmeter to the option where it makes a noise if there is a current, and test as if testing for voltage. If it beeps then its your earth cable.
Speaker cables are easy too, just see what colour the cables are which connect to your speakers and connect them accordingly.

Now is the fun part, put all Male Connectors one either the headunit or the cables connecting to it, and all Female Connectors on the opposite. plug em all up and hey presto u have a working stereo. Before u do up all the screws make sure everythin is working as it should be. As in the Front Left speaker plays when u fade to the Front Left etc.......

Its really not that hard, may take u a while if u've never done it before, but will save u a couple hundred bucks.

I think we have another addition to the FAQ section.

yeh dont wprry, i figured i wired the ground to the illumination adn didnt realise i ahd the car off when i was use my ampmeter thingy (the thing that tests current) and anyway it said it was a ground, so yeh, i also didt realise the old head unit used jsut the body of tghe stereo as a ground which then ran off onto the ground, ohwell.....its all good now.....
