hello,
u\i think the gearbox on my tr is foooked.......
1st-2nd if fine but there a bit of a bump going from 2nd into 3rd
and somtimes when accellerating it trys to go to the next gear but then just
revs itself to redline  is it stuffed????
i really dont have enough money to spend on a new box
or would new tranny oil fix it?

i know absolutly nothing about boxes, im only stating the bleeding obvious here, change tranny oil, see how that goes, if its still fked, take it to a mechanic see what they say.
mate of mines box lost a few gears and all it was was a blown fuse when they installed a stereo wrong.
so could be bad but could be dead simple to fix

when it goes to change from 2nd to 3rd it either has a bump or revs the **** out of itself

I wouldn't mess about, take it to a transmission specialist before you get caught out.

but before the tranny blew on tha corrola i bought for $150 blew it was a bit different and would'nt rev out
sounds like its a buggered transmission... or it could be ur ECU trying to recalibrate itself- hav u taken the battery in and out within the days its fine till now? best bet is to get it checked out by a mechanic, if he finds a problem and it is ur transmission, u can get it fixed, or get a recon'd one- i think dee had this done?- it much cheaper than brand new

but the problem is that its onlt done 66,000kms
i think it must be somthing else
and ive only ever thrashed it once the whole time ive had it
and the previous owner was a 76yr old lady

 your kidding right?!?!?
it has an AUTOMATIC clutch... hence why its called an automatic box

thats exactly what happened to me. it became more and more common (up to occuring once every 60 seconds after restarting car), and ended up happening in every single gear over the period of 4 or 5 days.
new transmission was in order.

yea well i used to drive a manual but the clutch broke and it was cheaper buying my vcar that i have now so im an autonoob
my friend had a commy with stuffed top gear (4th) and reverse, it would just rev and rev and not engage, at any temp. Auto guy said that the oil hadnt been changed for ages (was kinda a think purple colour) and that metal filings will get stuck in the clutch packs and acclerate wear and that screwed it up. was gonna be thousands for new clutch packs. So he got a 5 speed and it goes hard!
The moral of the story? Service your autos often :D
