97 TF magna 127,000km.

*Got my timebelt replaced (is this what the americans call a camshaft belt?) $450
*Got all sprak plugs replaced (6 i think he said it was) $170

then... when I thought I was picking car up this afternoon, mitsubishi rings to tell me the guy(s) who did my car notice I was missing a bolt and it could be dangerous to drive out.....

the bolt cost $10...

What bolt could these guys be talking about....

Anyways im hoping my car will get its acceleration power back. (yet the guy today on the road test said he could not fault it.. grr)

What state are you in Vinh, I am sure the guys here could have directed you to a non dealer that would have been cheaper. The genuine plugs are exxy, the rear plugs are the exxy ones. 450 for cam bely is actually not too bad.
As for the bold could have been several bolts involved here.
How is the old girl running now?

they havent rang me today yet :(
Im going to be ringing them tomorrow morning to see if its ready to be picked up yet.

Lucky the guy told me my timebelt doesnt look like its been replaced and got it done now.. I could of had a very expensive episode down the track.

Ive read somewhere that time belts can miss a teeth or so and lose power, maybe that was my problem? Also they get much louder when they get older also i read. Well that was a cambelt on a american site but i think thats what americans call there timebelt.

Anyways timebelt, sparkplugs will be done.. if my car isnt any better (most likely didnt fix problem) i still have ground to stand on.

I will do the oil filter / engine oil / fuel filter / injectors next time (a very long some time) I go to mitsubishi.

after that.. Im just going to give up and look for experts in the car engine fields.. by that time i could afford it.

hey Vinh,

did they changed the Cam seals or not, coz its always good to get the new cam-seals when changing the timing belt, that is what i was advised by mitsu dealer and i got them changed at i00K service

got a call and went to pick it up.

Car is still in slow acceleration shape and loud noise :(

cost me $650 total.
On the receipt belt was like $100 or something but total cost of labour was like $400..

When you took the car to them what did you ask them to do or tell them was wrong?

Told them about problem.. the guy went on a road test with me and said he couldnt fault the pickup of the magna and the noise is what the lifters do.

And from there he asked when last time i service and suggested timebelt and sparkplugs replace and more frequrent oil changes.

Interesting, he could not fault the performance, he could hear the lifters but he said to change the cam belt.
This guy must have had some hash cookies for lunch. If a customer came to me and told me the performace was down, I drove the car and thought it was fine, I would be looking for the problem.
perhaps he should have given you a drive of another of the same model to compare cars. I have seen many a time a person complaining a car is not going as well as when they got it when all it is the fact they are used to the car however in your cse you had a fairly bad drop pretty much overnight so there must be a problem.
A fuel filter is about 25 bucks, give it a go, you might just have picked up bad fuel like i did a few weeks ago

Could be a number of reason for drop in performance but you have had the spark plugs and timing belt already done, so I would look at coil, leads, fuel filter, injector cleaner etc. A bad coil for instance will still have the car running but have no power at all, especially up hills. Same as leads and fuel filter. Sort of hard to pick with out seeing the car but there are a few other things that make performance drop.
