How'dy folks,
Just a quick question regarding the distributor on a Magna TF 3.0. Can someone advise me on where to get instructions or tell me how to remove the distributor(not just the cap).
I've been advised that a distributor from Mitsubishi costs $1400 bucks + labour and I've tracked one down from a wrecker $150 bucks and would rather do it myself.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Very weird to lose the distributor totally. Before I would do it, I would get it diagnosed as being the whole distributor.
Usually a new cap and leads will do the trick. Try $140 MAXIMUM for cap & leads, under $100 for dealer to fit, or do it yourself easily if you have half a clue. Yes, I've had it done. I wouldn't imagine a full distrubitor w/cap & leads being anywhere near $1.4K for supply, fit and check timing.
Did a dealer quote you this?
You will have all sorts of timing problems afterwards unless you REALLY know what you are doing, and that will mean a trip to the dealership or a very good mechanic to at least get the base timing right. You only have to have the angle out a couple of degrees and you are looking at backfiring, poor running, fuel economy requiring you to follow a fuel truck....
I have seen cars that have had this sort of thing done backfire and catch alight. It's not pretty.
Try the cap and leads first. Then, if it still isn't right, do the whole distributor. Watch/mark where everything is when you remove, put it back inthe exact same position (rotor arm, etc)

TF, simple mate.
After you have removed the appropiate pipes to gain access, the dist can only go in one place as the crank angle sensor controls timing.
The end of the shaft has an offset "lug" it will only go in one way.

correct, no timing adjustment, will only go in one way.
individual parts are not available from mits, try getting the dizzy overhauled if its faulty or for $150 from a wrecker you prob cant go wrong. Overhaul usually around $300-$350 .
