Hi ppl. new member, my 1990 TN? Magna needs new CV's, has anyone replaced them themselves?, how difficult is it etc. have time to do it, am on a carers pension, hence needing to do it myself.
Do you replace both sides or just the side with the bad CV?, any tips or info will be appreciated.

i think its best to take it to a pro, they can be very difficult to change

Piece of piss to do as long as you buy a compleate shaft.
I payed $150.00 for mine, plus $40.00 for a workshop manual and fitted it (driver's side) in about 2 hours.
I think I could do it in under one hour now that I've done one.
If I can do it, anyone can. :)

you don't need to buy a complete shaft to do it easily, just make sure you have the right tools, most importany when doing CV's is a soft face (usually copper or plastic) hammer, also to get the drive shaft nut off easy, pull the wheel off take the centre cap out, put the wheel back on, handbrake up, and undo it through the hole where the centre cap should be, (if fitted with alloy wheels)

wehn i did mine, i had to do both sides with repalcement drive shafts. not too bad a job, until one of the replacmeents outer boots started leaking. So i took that one off and dissaembled it, took it into my mechanic to try and belt it off so i could put the new boot on (b4 it started clicking) he couldnt get it off with a soft hammer, said something about a clip on the inside which is easy to put the joint on the driveshaft but difficult to get off. Had to dissasemble inner joint as well, to get outer boot off :( But yes, replacement drive shaft easier option.

that is the only way that i know how to change the out cv boot. You pull apart the inner joint and then take it off the long way.
