Hello All

Seeking some advise here from the knowledgeable folks who read/contribute to this forum.

A couple of months ago I bought a 2002 TJ sportswagon. Just have to say...I love it!!!

Great ride...enjoy driving it, gets heaps better mileage than my old Audi and it has stacks more space to expand into ( got 1 kiddie with another one on the way), love the tiptronic and the way that you can blow away cars when they think that the body kit is just for show...handles as sweet as a nut and it's quiet to boot...

The 163 kW donk is a ripper too...still, it would be nice to have a bit more poke...

So...I read a bit about these K & N filters - I am assuming that they are some kind of high performance filter/assembly. Question - is it a filter that will go straight in my air box or do I need to mod stuff? Is it worth it i.e do you get a noticeable performance vs. cost benefit.

Is there anything else that is easy'ish to do to get a bit more performance?

I know that it's probably been asked a squillion times, but do those sexy 2002 VRX 17" X 7" rims bolt onto my 2002 sports wagon?

What do they generally go for and just how hard are they to come across?

Can you get the chromy/clear tail lights for the TJ/2002 wagon? what are they worth?

Really appreciate your help - love the car and just want to personalise it a bit.

Cheers,

Scott in Peakhurst.

P.S I take it that there is a fairly good club movement around for the magna - any ideas around south-west sydney???

Hi SWR,

Firstly welcome to the AMC.

The K&N air filter can be bought as a panel filter which just slides straight into where your standard filter goes or you can get an oval pod filter which involves you taking the box out and attaching an adapter of some sort one of the other members will be able to fill you in on that.

Unfortunatly you can't get any after market taillights for magna wagons.

You can get the TJ series2 VRX rims will fit any other 2nd gen or 3rd gen magna, but you can only buy them second hand from memory as Mitsubishi don't make them anymore. People usually sell these on here when they changes rims so best to keep and eye out and they sell quickly.
A member on another forum I'm apart of is selling his set of VRX rims, here is the link
VRX rims for sale on NMC (http://www.newcastlemagna.org/viewtopic.php?t=313)

There are a few members aroudnt that way in Sydney, my reommendation is to post up in the New South Wale section.

I hope this helps and welcome once again.

Cheers,

Nathan.

In addition to above, there has been a number of problems associated with the flat panel filter. Namely, theres a bit of a flat spot in the throttle midrange due to an apparent lean out of fuel intake.

Anyway in my opinion, the cost/performance ratio in these air filters (whether its the panel or pod) is 10:1, ie. its not really worth it (Emphasise, this is my opinion).

Pro's:
*Lifetime filters, just need to clean it regularly
*A minute performance gain
*Nice induction noise (with the Oval POD's)

Con's:
*Not much performance gain
*Costs

The S2 VRX rims are difficult to come by, and I find that people seem to get rid of them at an overrated price.

There's a pretty large gathering at the Sydney meets, and you should be able to fit right in :) There are few in the South Sydney area, but the club will have meets anywhere in Sydney, normally with an initial meet point somewhere central (Hombush) as the AMC population is distributed all over Sydney.
