Hey guys.....heres my story......i bought a TP Magna stationwagonoff a freind of a freind for $100. The interior was A1.... and was said to be mechanially A1 also....except the handbrake sticks on. SO i looked over the body and saw it has some rust in the usual place...eg under the wiper on the tailgate and under the fuel lid.....so i thought id put my spraypainting skills to work and decided to fix the rust and respray the whole thing....so i went off and go 2lts of paint...preped the car..then though i think ill need another ltr...so i went and got another ltr...so i paint the car with the first 2 ltrs and started using the back up ltr...and it was a different colour....not happy jan...so i went back to the paint place and they organised me 4ltrs of new paint...so another weekend end wasted painting the car.....anyway its all the same colour now and im pleased with the finial result....although today it was outside while i was at work...and of course we had to have a HUGE hail storm,...golf balls falling from the sky...so its now got some new dents. I started it up....it over heated...took a look under the hood...the fan was rusted out and just sitting there...so i fitted a new one...now it still over heats...the fan only works when i turn on the A/C but even then its over heating still....now im thinking either waterpump of themostat.......anyone else had some experince with this sort of thing. If so let me know what u think it is :)..also sorry for the long post.
If it's overheating WHILE the fans are not running, check the thermal switch at the bottom of the radiator, or the Fan relay in the engine bay fuse box.
**Homework**
Also, is the radiator too hot to touch (or just warm and you can leave your hand on it), is the system under pressure, EG give the top radiator hose a squeeze!
Please report back!

i have checked the themal switch....everything seems ok ...to the eye that is....but will check the fuse.....but if i turn on the a/c the fan comes on and even then when the a/c is on and the fan is running...its still over heating.......
also...ive squeesed the top hose..and i dont think it is getting pressure.....that a waterpump issue...???
btw..thanks for the fast reply :)

these cars do overheat, if they dont means the engines not on.
ive gone to the liberty of having engine side fan activated on ignition.
thermal switches removed.
in the summer i remove the thermostat.
makes the difference.
also installed nose vents as a secondary indication of overheating and to let out some extra heat.

yeah i was thinkin about bypassing the whole thermal thing and just have them start on startup as well....
Do it all the time in my Civic.
I'd say it's more than likely your thermostat's been cooked. Whilst you've got the thing out, flush out the cooling system with your garden hose.

yay, im not the only person that hates thermo's :bowrofl:
Having the fans locked on won't help you if turning the fans on with the AC doesnt cool things down. sounds like you have two problems, the fans not coming on, and not enough coolant getting through the radiator. check the coolant thermastat. no, just replace it, its located in the round enclosure at the end of the top radiator hose, the end thats NOT the radiator.

pop out the radiator and head over to your local radiator shop and have it professonaly flushed, BEST 80 dollars you will ever spend. it comes back all painted up and recon'd

thanks all for ya help.....i put in a new themostat (had alot of fun getting at the top bolt on the housing right up against the EFI) and it seemed to keep it from over heating now.....but still the fan aint cutting in at all....the temp go up to just over 1/2 on the temp gauge, the water was really hot.....pretty sure thats normal. Then fan only cuts in when i turn on the A/C.....any ideas guys? Again thank u all for your quick replys...wasnt expecting so many replys so fast :)
