Hi, I have the opportunity to buy a faulty (but quality & brand new) Subwoofer at a less than R.R.P. (owner does not have warranty - not original owner)
Problem is that it was part of a 'bad batch' where the magnets were misaligned, which means the driver can not move.
I don't really know what this means, so I'm looking for some advice.
Can this be fixed or it a dead duck ?
If it can be fixed - costly ?
Thanks.

more details on brand & model please....
And a much more detailled description of what is actually wrong with it would also help.

Nope I wouldnt go for ti. It would be possible if you just need to swap voice coil or recone. But sounds like you'll need to adjust the entire basket.
What sub? ANything under $1k rrp i wouldnt bother.
Any pics?

The sub is a Focal 27V2 (11")... http://www.focalaustralia.com.au/polyglass.htm
Website says $409 RRP so I guess it's not worth the risk.
Thanks guys.

Yeah wouldnt bother. unless you can get it for $30. Then might be worth it
Peace

I wouldn't believe a word of it. Focal (JMLabs) test their products before release and have quite a stringent quality assurance procedure. They do export "bad batches" of subwoofers. While this doesn't mean you won't ever get a faulty product, it does tend to rule out subwoofers that have something as major as an unmoveable cone.
The most famous cause of subwoofer motor misalignment is when they're dropped. In other words, stay away from that unit. :(
