for those that have replaced the airbag cover, does it fit nice and flush, and have there been any signs of it warping?

Yeah I'm pretty sure it's going to warp again. I've got one of the latest model TJs with a lot of the TL parts, I had to get the passenger airbag cover replaced (they have to replace the whole unit, not just the cover)

One of the other things that is common is that the paint around the rubber on the rear screen will flake off, and even if that doesn't happen, it will rattle pretty badly.

Additionally, there are the common series 3 problems: power window regulator failure, fuel gauge failure, there were also some problems with the ignition leads melting and a problem with the fuel lines to the engine, but I believe there was some sort of recall to fix those problems.

Before it warps it sits flush with the rest of the dash, on mine the top right started peeling back and stuck out almost 10mm i just asked about it when i was getting my seat fixed, and they said that yes it can be replaced under warranty so i got it done. Yes the whole assembly has to be removed and a new one put in, the part apparently costs 1000 biggins.

The new one i have had in for roughly the same amount of time and have not noticed any lift at all.

Come on....is it that bad? I had very good impressions of TL more than TJ. I love it when I rented the car and drove 800kms with it. Laughed when it asked me to take a coffee break after a continuous drive. The thing I find weird about the car is why did they put the boot lid lever on the passenger side? Is this for TJ model as well? Of course by asking this I am not sure about the rest of the Gen 3 range of magnas. While the TE is the 'normal' driver side seat.

Lights seem excellent on TL one of the things that inspired me to buy a Magna. Believe it or not, I dont like the design of TJ model until I seen a VRX version. but TL looks to me a great car. Oh yeah, with now able to get performance lights (Altezza) makes me envy TJ and TL owners being so lucky. Overall, if not for this car, I would not have bought a TE and ended up with a Camry.

Come on....is it that bad? I had very good impressions of TL more than TJ. Quite a few of the problems the series 2 TJs had went through to the TL - you need to remember that a substantial number of components in the car have been made by long term suppliers. Often the problem isn't with Mitsubishi, its with the suppliers. I have heard that the supplier for the passenger airbag is the same supplier that Holden has used - with similiar warping results. Don't quote me on that though, just what I have heard by word of mouth.

This is the same for the TJ Magnas however the TJ Veradas had the switch in the drivers door. Dont know where the glove box thing came from, I remember when my family had a VL Commodore from 1987 - the button was located in the exact same spot.

People that says they have not had ANY problems are either:

A) Lying
B) Never owned a TL
C) Extremely lucky.

i thought that was strange at first, but then i remember that its for the same reason as the grey key. when your getting your car serviced you give them your grey service key, which won't open the glove box or the boot. if the button was in the glovebox, then they could open the boot without a proper black key.

greenmatt

Or you could just open the ski port and pull the emergency boot release. Also TL-R what springs did you use to lower yours and how low is it?

Pedders Sports rider (and they are ****).

Don't know exactly how low but its still legal.

IC wot u mean. But was just wondering why TJ and TL had boot release there. is so unaccesible, well not really but a bit inconvience thats all. First time drove TL which was the first 3rd gen Magna I drove anyway, was searching for the lever on my drivers side lol.
Yes MY TE also has the so called master key to prevent them from opening it but big deal....u know what I mean? lol

Nah, I just asking why was it that they design it in such a way to put the lever there and not the driver's side.

Fuel tank? oh my, thats not too good at all. I really like the TL's design. In some ways I like it the looks more than 380, dont screw me on that sentance, I said in some ways. Overall still a great drive for me. Enjoyed it fully.

I wouldn't say the boot unlock button in the glovebox is a big deal really. Then again what am I to speak of considering I have a tailgate, and well i'm a bitbiased since our family has had Commodores almost through my whole life and the boot unlock button has always been in the glovebox.

But nowadays its no biggie because the boot can be unlocked from the key anyway, so the boot button is hardly/never ever used.

lol obviously I been fetching people from places with luggages, and so it happens I am used to majority of cars having it on the drivers side else having to lean over to open it. I know its not a big deal. only wondered why these designers were thinking?

Had mine now for 12 months. So far:
Horn stopped working. When fixed, it had the most pathetic whine of any horn I have ever heard. They said it was normal. Looks for air horns in garage.
Seat belt wouldn't retract on driver side.
Air bag on dash looks like someone tried to lever it out with a crowbar.
Passenger side air bag needed to be replaced. Airbag light on dash constantly on.
ABS light constantly on. Fixed the light. Went for a drive and heard a rattle under the bonnet and then a crunch. When I lifted up the bonnet, the cover for the electrical box on the rhs was missing. Obviously forgot to replace the black cover and left it loose under the bonnet somewhere. Went back and retrieved the shattered cover and got up the service department.
Fuel sender on dash had a mind of its own. Went up and down like a yo yo while I was driving. They replaced the fuel sender unit.
Annoying knock in rhs somewhere. Only on uneven roads.
Seat squeals like mad when using electric adjustment.
Paintwork appears very soft. Got it back from one of the warranty jobs looking like someone had washed it with 360 wet and dry. Complained again and told me it came in that way.
Radio doesn't work. FM has no signal. CD player still OK.
Rear vision mirror won't stay where it should. It's got limpdick syndrome and just hangs there.
Took it to another mitsubishi dealer and asked for a trade in valuation. Cost $19,500 with 38K on the clock. Got quoted $14k with 41K. In 12 months. Mitsubishi....get effed.

Still, it's fun to drive. Saving to by a boss 260 V8 with supercharger. 400KW...mmmmmm.

Would I buy another mitsubishi........don't make me say it, you know the answer.

This is sad, I had higher impressions of the TL than my TE. I know heaps of people already had problems on the TE-TH, I am quite lucky for now since I had my car for 4 months. Absolutely still luv it to death. Sometimes I see some other driver who trashed his TL on the road breaks my heart. Went to Megna wreck the other day and another wrecked TL was lying there, sad. Having said, not being able to afford new rims etc....I have just replaced my wheel caps with the TL's version for $30.00 from the Mitsubishi dealers, pretty good deal.
At least got rid of my boring old wheel caps on my stock magna.

My 04 TL has been brilliant to date but has developed a surging problem which it
has had for a while now and seems to be getting worse  It happens mainly in 4th under
load and you notice it more on a uphill pull .
At first I thought it may be a fuel prob but it isn't consistent so took it to the local
Mits dealer and the head mechanic reckons it's the lock up on the torque converter
playing up  Was wondering if any TL owners have had tranny issues similar to this .
Have not had any of the probs such as seats ,horn etc thank God :)

Not atm as I'm just to busy with our main bussiness but I am
in the process of making the TJ kit fit my TL but this is a one off
at this stage .
I love my TL and it has not had any probs till now and Mits have
been really good fixing any probs with any of my Magnas/Veradas so yeah I'd
but another :)
