Hi all,
Just a quick question in regards to the 3.5 litre engine.
When it was first used in the Verada's and then Magna it had a claimed power output of 147kw and 300NM. They then changed the cam for better efficiency and it was then claimed to produce 150k and 300nm. Then a short time later the figures changed to 155kw and 316nm (excluding the sports/vrw with different exhaust 163kw and 317nm) but with no known changes to the engine????
Can someone shed some light on where the extra 5kw's and 16nm came from? And if so how do you get that extra 5kw's and 16nm out of the 150kw motor? what is involved?
Thanks all

All internal components are supposedly the same in the 3.5L - you are right.

The difference between the 147kW version and the 150kW version was that slightly longer duration cam (like .5 degree on the inlet and .7 degree in actual terms) and fuel mapping to suit only. 3kW seems like nothing, but it was just more time to fine tune the combustion charge, ignition and exhaust.. It's a cheap way of getting more power.

The difference between the 150kW and 155kW engine was slight breathing modifications, plus fuel mappings to suit. The bulk of this was the exhaust manifold was redesigned extract the exhaust gases a bit better. Probably the most restrictive part is the exhaust manifold.

The final sports/VRX engine was rated 163kW at the flywheel. The only difference between this and the 155kW version was a marginally freer flowing exhaust and slight fuel mapping changes I believe.

To get from 150kW to 155kW: Pacemaker (or other proper) extractors should just about do it. After that, if you still are not happy, either a stock Sports/VRX exhaust will do nicely, but a bolt on Redback or similar will possibly gain an extra kW or two. A fully custom exhaust system might squeeze another 1-2kW on top of that.

Anything higher will require a longer duration cam (read Ralliart or possibly RPW cams) or higher compression. Once you get to this stage, a Unichip, E-manage or other programmable engine management will be a must. Premium (95 RON) fuel will probably be needed also.

But once to that stage, we're talking Ralliart sorta outputs.

Good luck

Im positive the only change between the Sports and an Exec, was the better muffler on the end, the rest is identical.

You'll find it's just an innocent mistake. Take a chill pill
