Hello all, I just joined the forums.
I'm a ford person, currently have a xb coupe, 351 blah blah blah, but i hope you wont hold that against me!
Reason i'm in here is i am about to sell the xb and am looking for something cheap with rwc and reg and came across this car on ebay. Considering buying it and wanted to hear all your thoughts on it. I dont know much about magnas yet so thought i would try here as i have learnt alot on the fordforums and figured this would be similar.
What price do you think is reasonable for this provided the description is accurate?
High k's i know, thats the main worry for me. The owner is unsure if the bottom end is original but the head has been recod. What sort of k's will a tp clock up on average before bottom end failure? What are main causes of failure?
What are the inherrant problems of the tp?
Its a carby not efi btw.
Basically any info, thoughts etc would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for all your help guys!
Aaron

it like the differnce of a falcon 500 and a gt
the bottom end dosent really have a lot of prob if its looked after, but over 200 000 the valuve stems and seals go a bit making it smoky.the auto trans can be a weak link if its been abused. as long as its been serviced regulary it'll go for ever.how come ur getting rid of the coupe its a classic. not dissing magnas cos i have a tp magna of my own but ive also got a xy that im rebuilding fron the ground up. oh yea and as for the klms we just had a write up about how ks does ur manga have and all the members of this site revealed how many klm is on thier magnas and the highest was 385 000 so id send the person on ebay a messege asking if it blew smoke and how it runs if the valve stems are in good shape that sort of thing. if most of those klms were from highway use it wouls prob be ok cause it was running a lot of time for the klms it has. just ask alot of questions. but i always see alot of magnas on ebay cos i check it every day so in my opinion wait till a better or lower klm magna cos along, well thats just my thoughts anyway :D

Hey smooth thanks for the quick reply,
selling the coupe to pay for a OS trip in december/jan. Also a thirsty 351 makes it hard to save with these petrol prices!
I agree that wagon you posted is better, the main reason i'm interested in the other one is because it has RWC and long reg. I basically just want something i can buy and drive for a year and then look for something else. Dont have the time and money to stuff around getting a RWC etc.

heres a tn magna it 2 models before the tp. less than half the klms. is going for $202 it needs cvs but for that price it wouldn't cost a lot to buy and fix.

Well i bought it anyways, haha, man ebay is addictive!
Its got a years reg and RWC so i figure even if the motor does die soon i can buy another low k car from ebay for about 500 and swap over the running gear.
Looks like you guys will be seeing me around here more often!

Well cared for, you'll see a fair few km out of it.
Still, it's nice to see another Victorian first gen!
The carbys themselves are prone to have stuffed secondaries, but, there's no big issued with the bottom end, as long as the chains aren't rattling constantly.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but they aren't the original TP Elite Alloy wheels are they?
Anyway I just gave away my old TN elite wagon same color and all to my Brothers Girlfriend. The roof is rusting and all 4 engine mounts needs replacing. The A/C compressor gave up the ghost last summer but apart from that it was going great. I told my Brother about this one on Ebay .... but he reckons he couldn't be bothered frogging around with the old TN.... Poor old girl is just gunna rust away in retirement.

When you say stuffed secondaries what exactly do you mean? How do i diagnose this and what are the fix options?
Havent picked it up yet, should get it over the weekend.
Aaron
The secondary throat on the carby. The car won't have much top end, amongst other things.
My solution was a tad drastic, to put EFI through it. You'll need to get one of the Karby Krew to hit up with the exact symptoms, and fixes.
