i have just bought a 91 tp wagon burgundy in colour.this car is mint in everyway.previous owner really looked after it.however since ive bought it the revs at idle are unstable causing it to idle at between 950 and 1150 up and down.ive changed plugs and rotor button.any ideas, would be great.cheers, pics will come as soon as the 17s are here.jj
Try cleaning the injectors, and check that the connections on the airbox hose are tight, and it hasn't split.

If he unplugs it the computer will go into limp mode even when he plugs it back in.
If it is playing up he will get more than rough idle, when he drives the car will cough and carry on because the timing will be out (when the APS/AFM is out the computer fixes the timing to 6deg which will give noticable coughing up in the rev range).

ok ive adjusted the idles, and it is stable at 850 rpm at idle.however when i put it into drive the whole car shakes and carries on.as soon as you put your foot down its fine, and as smooth as you like at top end.just noticed a small leak in the exhaust pipe behind the front muffler/resinator.could this be my new problem.cheers,

adjust the idle a little higher, round the 850 mark when in drive. should sort it out.

i wouldnt have thought it would even do that it should just stall when u pull the plug out i know mine does cos ecu thinks no air..

thats pretty normal for all 1st gens, if the shakes really bother u, just stick it into Neutral (makes the car rev alittle higher) and itll stop the shakes.
personally, i just leave it shaking, since itll use less fuel doing the lower revs.

I know when the mate unplugged his it just ran like a dog. When I did a self-test the APS/AFM showed up. When I read the manual it says that if there is a fault in these it fixes the timing to 6deg (no advance).

My old TP wouldn't even go with the AFM unplugged.
I'll still stick to the dirty injectors. Even if it's not, the clean will prevent other problems
