i have said for a long time that it can only serve to benefit the sport to see a third or possibly even a fourth manufacturer in the sport (although i think 4 is the max)

The rule book says any australian built sedan can compete, which the 380, camry and avalon all fully comply with! It would be great to see both mitsubishi and toyota join the ranks, and avesco has even requested that atleast one of them join the catagory. Unfortunately mitsubishi are currently too poor and toyota are pouring all their motorsport bikkies into the ARC

You'll find it also says the car must be a rwd V8 Production car which can then be modified.
i didnt know that mitsubishi created a rwd V8 on a production line.
380 and Camry do not comply 1 bit.

If they threw in a 3rd part, ALOT of V8 Supercar fans would leave as it is now a traditional holden VS ford battle.
Yes Nissan had a chance, but they got kicked out.

incorrect, the rules ONLY state that it has to be an australian manufactured car, you do NOT have to produce a RWD V8 road car to be able to compete. This rule was actually inserted back when the catagory was first formed in the hope that nissan would stay in the series by using the maxima or some kind of sedan, however they decline the offer and had a big sook about it. Nissan where not kicked out of the series at all, CAMS just decided that they didnt like group A anymore as it was too easy for a single car to dominate, they wanted a series where all cars had to use the same type of engine and the same type of drive layout. The most popular engine and drive layout in australia is V8 and RWD, and hence how V8 supercars where born. As i said, nissan where encouraged to participate, they decided not to

And i dont think ALOT of V8 supercar fans would leave at all, the diehards remember the days when there where alot of different manufacturers and they still watched back then, just as they will still watch in the future. They will say they wont like it, but they also said they would never forgive brocky for driving a ford seirra..

holden designed their own V8 (the aurora) a couple of years ago specifically for the V8's, so mitsubishi would be able to do the same. Once again it doesnt have to be a production derived engine
