Is it normal for an engine to run slightly over the midway mark on the gauge?

My 1992 Verada has run slightly hot ever since I've pulled the engine out and replaced the transmission and valve stem seals.

I've tried changing the coolant, but this seems to make it run hotter still, even on a cold morning the radiator fans will be on whenever I'm idling.

Since I've bought it, I've had to replace the coolant temperature sending unit, and it's definetely more accurate than the previous unit, but I'm still stumped as to why it's running so damn hot... it's never overheated, but sometimes you can smell the engine when you pull up...

Cheers
Andy

Hi

Like said change your thermostat and Radiator Cap. Also check your hoses and make sure there is no leaks/swelling. (Pritty Cheap) Otherwise could be waterpump&or belt.

If you have to fill up on water/coolant alot that could be the problem.

I know my car goes warmer when going around bends. But always comes down.

These Engines should be running on half way on the gauge, that goes for most mitsubishi models.

good luck

yeah it might just be the cap it only goes slightly above mid point.

Get your whole cooling system pressure tested....nothing worse than a cooked head.

Could be something cheap and simple like a radiator hose....which when it splits turns into something very expensive
