According to the latest Go-Auto E-news.
380 GASSES UP
MITSUBISHI Australia’s 380 line-up will soon
be bolstered by a dual-fuel LPG variant.
Outgoing boss Tom Phillips revealed in
Sydney last week that the gas conversion would
add around $2300 to the cost of the donor car.
The dual-fuel car will feature the latest injection
technology by IMCO, according to Mr Phillips.

i thought mitsubishi had LPG-only versions of the TJ and TL? i'm guessing with the similarities of the 2 engines, this could also be possible.

i wouldnt bother...
mid next year, gas will be the same price as fuel.

i'd probably get it if i was buying a new 380, i've heard alot of people say that ice magik, but i've also heard people saying it for the last 5 years and it hasnt happened, so i personally would be willing to take the risk

Well at the moment LPG is excise free. From i think its July next year, the government will be allowed to collect excise from LPG which will put the price up....... every quater.

I'd be getting gas straight away. Salesman told me the 380 is ready for gas, and I don't think the price of gas will EVER reach petrol prices, gas is renewable. Also as long as gas in installed by qualifed fitter, it doesn't void mitsubishi's 10 year engine/drivetrain warranty, and if its something caused by the gas, mitsu investigation will go underway to see if its a part that shouldn't have faulted and will not affect warranty, and if its a gas problem, gas warranty if ya get one

IMPCO gas kits are factory approved and may be fitted after delivery by LPG workshops. It will not affect factory warranty at all.
see this post by me last year: http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showpost.php?p=176757&postcount=5
Should tell ya everything you need to know. Else, go to the ALPGA site (link also in thread)

gas won't jump in price as can be the case with natural disasters or political issues because we have MASSIVE gas reserves off the coast of WA. its not that economical getting it round this side but its always there if want to use more of our own. you know what they say about gas, everyone loves their own brand. lol
LPG isn't renewable by the way, the P is for petroleum.
this excise is nothing to worry about either. i read the details and they go along the lines of in a few years (may even be as far as 2011) a 2.5c excise will be add per litre. this will continue every year until there is a 12.5c excise.

Thats what I heard too. LPG will remain very cheap.

the one concern with LPG 380's is tho, the 380 doesnt have the biggest boot in the world to begin with, so just how much additional space with the LPG conversion take up??

I heard it will have a smaller tank fitted in the spare wheel bay, with the wheel moving some where in the boot.

well after seeing the boot i think even a spare wheel in there would take up considerable space, especially if its a full sizer. Guess we'll just have to wait and see
also be interesting to see what the power loss is with the conversion. The LPG BA falcon only had 150kw, although it did have alot of torque

If you plan on buying a 380 and putting it on gas make sure you get it in writing that the model you get can have gas fitted on it. The GT and either the LX or VR-X will not be compatiable, the difference is the valves and seats and for some reason, even though they have the same power figures. I don't know why they've done this, they just have.
The new design tank is made to fit in the spare wheel well, but you need to find somewhere else to put the spare. Yes the 380 has a slightly small boot that the Magna, but I'll think you'll find it has more useable space because of the new design hinges (gas struts) on the 380.

If they make a Taxi yellow they should be able to quickly fill the gap that will be left when Toyota does their final run of Avalons (if they have not done so already).
Ford of course fell out of favour with taxi operators when ford droped the taxi pack with taxi yellow.
As a respray to this colour costs $2500- $3000, it was more economically viable for the taxi drivers to use the Avalon.

Unlike Victoria (where a Taxi MUST be yellow by law - was it Jeff Kennett that did that?? Ash, Bain?)... NSW does not have any problems with white taxi's.
We have a Toyota Tarago, an Avalon, a couple of AU's, an EF, a Hi-Ace Minibus thing, and and a VS Wagon in my town.
All white.

Gas isn't renewable - it's a fossil fuel just like petrol. It's made from oil, it just uses different components of it (butane and propane) rather than octane.

Aren't most taxis bought secondhand anyway? (as in, they buy secondhand Falcons, and then prepare them for taxi use)

no, bought direct from the factory in taxi spec (ie heavy duty suspension, vynal seats, etc)

The correct information re LPG is that the 380, 380LS and 380LX are currently fitted with LPG compatible engines. The valves and valve seats are specially hardened to take the higher combustion chamber temperatures.
There is NO factory approved LPG kit available. It is important that you discuss LPG fitment with the dealership. They have been provided with detailed information regarding the do's and dont's. This information is relevant regardless of the vehicle manufacturer.

I have had LPG fitted to magna's with "Not gas approved by mitsubishi" engines and never ever had an engine problem.
Count so far
1988 TN EFI on gas, no problem in 220,000km
1991 TR Elite converted to gas at 80,000, still going, around 300,000km
2003 TL VR converted to gas at 20,000km...so far so good, will report any problems if any.
Before converting the TL I spoke to a few conversion places, they all said the 3.5v6 magnas go well on gas and don't give any problems. The reason I didn't get a TL with LPG compatible engine was because I wanted a VR and they aren't available on VR.
Will be interesting to see how the 380 converts to gas.
