Went into the dealer today, and got straight behind the wheel of a 380 5 speed auto. And I was impressed as expected. They get up and go. The auto is as smoothe as I expected, pickup is there and ready to go when its needed. On all attempts though 1st shifted into 2nd at 5500rpm, slightly early I reckon, 5700-5800 would be ideal, so manual shifting in the tip tronic would be more advantageous in my opinion for more spirited driving. The handling was impressive and steering was responsive and had good feel, but I'm a believer in lowering.
Also while driving checked the average fuel consumption the car had done, and in 306km it used an average of 16.1l/100km. She's been driven hard! lol
Anyone else done the drive? I'm almost convinced.
Price: Is a concern at this point. I used to work with one of the salesmen so he said, yeah, I will look after ya. Sounds good chief.
Base price 34,490 plus on roads and extras totalling $37800.00 final figure. They said $7500 trade in on my TF wouldn't be a problem.. so was happy with that. Final figure with trade in:
$30,300.
Thoughts?

yeah mate that price is RETAIL! from what i have seen there you havent done any bargaining? stuff that dont pay full price!! Try and get as much out of em as possible. Or you can use a broker. Theres a mob by the name of queensland car brokers that will go and find you the best deal possible and you dont even have to pay them! they get paid by the dealerships!!! A mate of mine bought a VX prado and when he went to get quotes, it came to 73k, the car broker got it for him for 58k!!!! no ****

Haven't bargained as yet but did say that I will be and that I need good prices to start with. My mum bought a 2002 Pajero exceed and got TEN grand off the price within a few quotes. Not as likely with a lower priced car, but, I'd like to see the changeover figure drop by $5k. Maybe $25k, I'm gonna push for it to be done :D
PS: RJL25, cheers for that site, I'll look into that!

yep well i managed to get 8k off the price of my last car but then again it was a magna and dealers just wanted a sale, any sale, so it wasnt too hard
do your best ay but i would recomend the car brokers, they do good work cos the dealers know that unless they offer a good price to the car broker, the broker is just gonna go somewhere else, so they always offer them the best price. If i was buying a new car again, i'd be using them
2005 TL Magna ES Base Price + On roads $37500
I Paid $29800 on road including
*17" Wheels
*Lowering
*Rear Spolier
*Tank of fuel
*Floor Mats
Bargin - if they don't go somewhere that does :)

i dunno how much the salesman wanted for my TL ES wagon on road.. but i know the retail on it was 38k so onroad it would have been about 40k, i just told the salesman straight up that i only wanted to spend 30k (bare in mind this was BEFORE mitsubishi started slashing the price on TL's) and he basically said "oh mate... i dunno ill check with the sales manager"
came back 2 mins later and said "you'll buy it today?" i said yep and we signed the paperwork then and there :D

I must admit I was probably asking too lower a price when I bought the TL AWD but they had the sale for 28990 + onroads and I said if you can get me 25000 with my TS as trade then no problems. They couldn't do it......... but fleet did even better!!!
Wonder what they can do for a 380 VRX?

I reckon get the VRX. The extra cost is worth it for the extra stuff and sports suspension.

You won't get that much out of any dealer right now on a 380.
New model, good demand... you want it, you pay for it.
Give it a couple of months for it to all slow down a bit, then go for it. $3-4K then would be expected, maybe more if sales slip a bit.

We made a dealer drive from brisbane to the sunshine coast to show us a camry my fiancee wanted to buy, they had 26900 on it, and we only wanted to pay 18000. we took it for a drive told him how much we loved it, and how great it was, so he got the paperwork out of his pocket, and then we told him, we only wanted to pay 15. the look on his face was priceless. he said that he had no room to move on the price, so we told him to call someone that did. he came back with 20, we said 15. he calls my fiancess mobile 15mins later wanting to speak to her, so i told him she was on the other phone to another toyota dealer, he instantly said what about 15,500 i said deal.

ROFL :bowrofl: Nice one!
Rule of thumb for any dealership - DO NOT DRIVE CAR TO SOMEONE"S HOUSE! (cos you'll get screwed everytime)

Not really true. If you shop around you'll find someone who'll haggle. There always is someone, the trick is finding them. And with the savings you can get it's worth the effort in finding them

dont think they will slash the prices on 380... not yet, mmal made it clear they wont slash the prices like the magna in order to protect the resale value, but then again if they dont move the cars they will have to slash the prices

Let's keep the finga's crossed the 380 holds its value and doesnt depreciate like our Magnas.

I drove a the 380 VR-X last week and IMHO I expected more. Exactly the same 5 spd Tiptronic as TJ & TL and apart from the steering feeling a bit tighter which is to be expected on a new car it feels the same as my car. Obviously the engine is bigger but wheres the twin-cam, MIVEC or at least a few extra kw being at the higher end of the price range. I think I will wait for the 380 Ralliart which is on the cards.

Yes, can't wait to see if there's a Ralliart coming in the 380. Fingers crossed it'll hit up near 200kw.
After my test drive and pricing etc, the dealer said he was gonna call me after a few days with pricing etc.. but, haven't heard back! lol.. he must have thought I was only up for the drive.

Talking to our salesman - there is 200kw+ potential in the engine, with only a couple of simple mods.
Be interesting to see a Ralliart version, eh? Lets hope Mitsu is successful enough to make one.

I remember a rumour going back a year or so ago about test mule VRX's being fitted with the high output 3.8 . . . with 220kw on tap. Cant confirm or deny, but it would be nice.

I haggled with three dealers here in the ACT. I finally got $3000 off a new GT. Only took a few days and I didn't push them to the last dollar. They all claimed that they wouldn't give discounts but in the end they all fought to make the sale. When I picked up the car the service guy told me I was the first person to buy one anyway...

Nice bargaining! I am sure the $3000 will come in handy elsewhere, or perhaps to some mods. :D

I would not want to drive a 220kW FWD car around without traction control. You would break traction in every gear almost but 4th or 5th in the wet. Forget that. AWD will be essential.

Commonwealth Motors Phillip reckon there's a 2 month wait on GTs... where did you get yours?

Commonwealth Motors. Great guys, a real pleasure to deal with. What they lost on the purchase price I will happily spend with them on servicing over the next 5 years.
The told me I was the first GT owner so the 2 month delays are likely true. I originally wanted the same sexy colour that Pops has. Unfortunately my options were limited to black. I have to admit that the black looks great but it is going to be a pain to keep clean.

By the way the more I drive this new 380 the more I like it. I just went for a 100km trip just for the fun of it. I haven't done that for years, even in my last sports car.
The 380 has plenty of power... it just keeps going. I was accelerating past 160 and there was no foreseeable limit to the torque. I backed off the accelerator because I guessed there must be at least a few cops out here in the ACT (or was I in Queensland by then?).
Oh.. if you haven't seen a 380GT console at night it is a thing of beauty. Everything lights up in blue and you just have to go.... cool.
I bought this car for my wife but I think I will keep playing with it for a little while longer yet. lol

went into eastside mitsu today (finally!) hoping to test drive the VRX. there were the base models, and the GT, but no sign of VRX. I looked puzzled and then a lady by the name of patricia (spelling) approached me. i asked how much is the VRX manual, she said 38K including on-road.
now i have a bit of dilema. for 25k or less i can buy a XR6T (series 1), spending 2-3k on mods. or get finance on a VRX? i need to be convinced, and right now i'm leaning on the XR6T.
