G'day, I got a phonecall just after lunch as my girlfriends TM magna had stopped in the middle of the road. She fianlly managed to get it to restart and limp it to a park just up the road. RAA came and told her that the "Automatic Ignition" had died. What the heck isthe automatic ignition? If anybody could help that'd be great. Cheers guys

Sounds like the module on the side of the distributer has failed, they cost about $90 to replace.

Cheers mate, I'll have a look, any idea how to check if it's working correctly?

if your tach reads nothing while trying to start, or nothing while running, and it used to work that would show it up. if car does not start, cheak for spark from an ignition lead.

Ah, good thinking about the tacho! I checked for spark when I got there last night, absolutely nothing. Had a spare coil lying round so tried that but didn't expect it to work as a dead coil usually gives a small spark. As expected, no result, so gonna give the ignition module on the side of the dizzy a go tonight, $53 from Motor Traders, not too bad if it fixes the problem. Cheers cobber.
