Hi guys, was looking at the new 380 range as my next company vehicle, and my first thoughts were to go for the LS. However, when I went to test drive the vehicle on Saturday, I was told that an automatic 380 VR-X was cheaper than an LS.

With the government-fleet discounts (for some strange reason the VR-X has over $6000 discount, whereas the LS has just under $4000), there is about a $3500 price difference between the VR-X and the LS, with the VR-X being the cheaper of the two.

THEN......When the salesperson noticed that I was currently driving a KS Verada, he pointed out that they now have a special offer on runout Verada Ei's, brand new, for $29,990, or over $13,000 off the RRP.

As far as I know, we can't even get a base model 380 manual for under $30,000!

So I'm just asking for your thoughts, whether you'd spend $30 grand on a new (but "old-model") Verada Ei, or spend $36,000-ish for a new 380 VR-X auto.

Thanks heaps guys
Justin

With the Verada now being finished the resale value will go through the floor as soon as you drive it out of the lot. But a 380 VRX should hold a better value for much longer.

Personally I would choose the 380.

But in the end it is up to you which one you get.

Good Luck mate.

If this is a company car then you are going to be able to write off the depreciation on tax. So it doesn't really matter how much you lose when you go to sell it...right?

If I had the money I'd buy the 380.....but even then I'd be waiting a few months to see some reliable reviews come through.

If money is no objective and you can afford the 380, go for that, or if money is a bit tight, go for the verada, i see youre in a win/win situation

the Verada is a heap of sh.... trust me, get a 380 fo shiznit I'm sure you mean 'fo sheezy' or 'fo shizzle'. You wouldn't buy a 380 "fo shiznit", although the actual car (and driver) would be 'tha shiznit'. Fo shizzle my nizzle, seven dizzles a wizzle.

It really depends what you want in the car, options wise. For $30k, verada is a top buy, but its the ei, i'd try talk him into selling the xi for thaat price, so you get your leather options.

But if you want a little more power and drive the current shape car, then go the 380, no question. Personally i would love a 380 but not just yet, it hasn't really been tested by a wide variety of people for reliability, the last thing you want is your car in the mechanic every week.

You know the verada will be a reliable car, i might be the only one to say this but personally i'd get the verada, get the 380 on your next purchase.

unless u get to spank Angelina Jolie for buying the verada, you should go for the 380... the verada is a 10 year old design....

I work for Mitsubishi Motors and have driven the 380 extensively, if the money is not really an issue then get the 380, its FAR FAR better than any Magna/Verada ever was! I think if you got the Magna/Verada you would kick yourself later!. There is no doubt, the 380 is the most refined Australian built car EVER!

If money is an issue and you are looking for good value for money then the Verada is defiantely a good buy, alot of car for the money!

While I went to look at the 380 the other day, the 2nd hand sales guy tried to sell me a pretty nice KL Verada AWD with 15k on the clock for $32k, still cheaper then a base 380 on the road. Nice black one too, but didn't have a sunroof.

i'd go the verada. or wait until the series 2 380 so all the bugs get ironed out of it. you should never buy a series one car, they have all the probs and cost the most, if you buy the series 2, then you get the updated version and a few grand cheaper. the verada is far from crap, its still a nice car, and for the money, you can look at other ones on the road and laugh at the fact that you got yours for about 10k cheaper than most others! lol

If you want something sportier, look into a 2nd hand ralliart....

The 380 is fine in series 1 just as the TE was a good car as well....
Problems with series 1 models only applies to Australian built Holden’s & Fords...

the verada is a good buy at that price, but if you buy it i reckon within a year you will be kicking yourself thinking "i could have had a 380" and will end up regretting it i think

and btw, not everyone thinks the TL is ugly.. go fck a goat :D

There is a pretty good deal at Werribee Mitsu at the moment. They have a couple of run out TW AWD VRX's for @ $30,000 on road if they are still there. Now thats tempting... :gtfo:

Yeah if it wasn't a Verada but an AWD VRX, it would make me think twice.

But damn the TW Verada is even uglier than the TL because they were had the giant US bumpers. UGH

I need a wagon for work, currently I drive a TH Altera with just over 100,000 on the clock. I seriously thinking of seeing about going after a run out Magna/Verada wagon. Resale value is a non issue with the amount of Kms I do a year and It looks like the current wagons will be the last Aussie made Mitshi wagon available to me.

Pity the 380 doesn't have a wagon version.
