hi guys,
popping my forum cherry. just got a 1998 magna tf the other day. from the limited amount of magna owners i have spoken to, i understand that the oil leaking around the engine is a persistent problem? is there anything i can do to fix this - besides taking it to a mechanic.
also, im only 19 and i have pretty much no mechanical knowledge - when the car is idling it sounds like the fan belt is having a few issues. is this something i can fix myself? if not, how long till this could become an issue.
cheers in advance.

that search buttons does wonders,
take it to a mechanic to find out wats wrong, ask for a free quote, most places will get u a quote, tell u wats wrong,
a leak could be just the rocker cover

Oil leaks and fan belt noises are two of the most common mechanical complaints of any car...not just a Magna. These are just general maintenance items and should be part of your prevenative maintenance schedule.....ie as the above post says go to a mechanic get the engine washed down so they can source the problem.
You got to spend money on your car....simple as that.

In that case - if you don't have a trusted mechanic, ask around at work or within your family/friends. There are operators out there that will take advantage of someone they believe has limited mechanical knowledge.
Get a quote on all work that needs to be done before you hand over the keys - and tell them if they find anything else to ring you (I know it sounds stupid, but trust me - I've heard horror stories).
It might be worth (for your own piece of mind, and expanding your mechanical knowledge) to ask the mechanic if he will show you the problem, and what they're gonna replace to fix it.
Best of luck.
