Because the suspension in them is so soft, everytime you hit a bump, go round a corner, the car rolls or justr seems to go over it

i've had an EA sed and an ED wagon, and hell, they float'd like nothing i'd ever been in before, it was like there was no road, or bumps or anything, you just glided on the surface.

also used to have an old HQ ute, dam, get some weight in the back of that thing and you could kiss good bye to any form of control. no brakes, no str. only thing you could do was get the front to lift, lol

Standard suspension on falcons do make them act like your on a wave.

Sports suspension make them more responsive.

My TJ suspension is a lot stiffer than a basic falcon.

The falcon would be more like a boat.

Now now, the opinions expressed by Ford Knob no. 1. :gtfo: do not reflect the views of all ford owners!

Quite good support of the Magna at times on FFAU and LS1, usually the major gripe is the fwd, but mention the awd they usually go silent.

Infact quite a number have also said they would buy the 380 at the drop of a hat if it was awd or rwd.

Always have a few that refer to the TS and TR, and to a lesser extent the TE's problem as affecting every single Magna across the board.

Funny how the auto box and astron problems managed to scar the whole badge and brand name.

My friend's Kingswood was called the "Submarine". It handled like an underwater ocean liner, mostly due to the lack of power steering. With the dozey 253 v8 we probably accelerated about as fast as a road train underwater. We even got smoked by a Hyundai Excel over at Kooragang Island one dismal saturday night about 8years ago

well in the fair dinkum department magna's are boats! its just that falcons, commodores and any other large sedan really are also boats! everyone knows that if you want slot car handling then something weighing over 1500kg is not for you! this thread is a bit "oh der" dont you think?

Well we have had a Ford ED Classic wagon and now a BA Futura wagon, and my parents would swap either of them for my TH Sports anyday. Both the Fords handled like crap and went like crap. They hate em and so do I. Mum drives my car whenever she can as she likes it so much better.

Falcons and Magnas are both boats. But from strictly a turning circle point of view, the Magna is definitely more of a boat than a Falcon, especially being FWD and all. Unlike previous Falcons (especially E model Falcons), the BA Falcon has a very good turning circle. Can't say the same for a Magna. I'd say her comment is understandable IF she owns a BA Falcon and has not driven other Falcons. If she owns an E model Falcon then, yep she is a dumbass.

P.S. You did say she was a Ford Chick, but you didn't say she was a Falcon chick. Does she drive a Ford Focus or something? Because that might explain her response.....

im really confused why ppl will come on to a MAGNA website and start dissing the car. go dis the magna sumwhere where we wont care. like FASTFORDS or STREET BOMBODORES. and to add another point who cares who has a better turining circle. this isnt a 3point turn comp. from my knowledge there are a lot of BA falcons out there reading the backs of many magnas/veradas licence plates. falcons are heavier i think then an average magna. there bigger than an average magna. and there also taxis as are commodores (TAxi= seen everywhere!!!!!) yes Magnas are common too but surprisingly your more likely to spott a falcon coomodre or camry 5 tymes b4 you spot a magna **** just today i walked up a hole main road in botany and not one magna but damn there were a lot of falcons and commodores.
so before ppl should go calling a magna a boat, why dnt they pause and quickly think about exactly how much of a boat a falcon or commodore is in comparison to this wonderfully built car.

FALCONS=TAXIS
COmmodores=TAXIS
Magnas=the difference between a bogan and a human being

Mate I'm really confused with what you're trying to say? What's it got to do with how many BA Falcon's are reading the back of Magnas' license plates? (not that there are many) I think you have to drive an E model Falcon, a BA Falcon, a TR/TS model Magna and a TE-TW Magna to understand what the topic of conversation actually is. And yes, turning circle plays a big part in how it handles like / unlike a boat.

Have you ever stopped to realise that perhaps the reason why Magnas are not Taxi's are because:

a) they have a smaller interior space compared to a Falcon or Commodore
b) they have less power than a Magna
c) are more expensive to repair
d) there are less parts available for Magnas
e) Magnas have a significantly inferior resale value
f) Magna interiors (as per Tom Phillips) are considered dated and bland - the general public wouldn't prefer to be a passenger in one over say a Commodore or Falcon

In other words there is no demand for Magnas as Taxi's because there are seen as inferior in the above aspects as well as others.

I'm not saying I don't like Magnas - I bought one because it was cheapest medium to large car I could find; I'm just saying Magnas aren't all that and a bag of chips.... In fact I don't think very much of Commodores or Falcons either, although I do specifically like the BA model Falcon. I think you should open you eyes to view other cars on their own instead of judging them and labelling them as taxi's or bogan cars.

Unfortunately Magnas were copping a pounding before you were even born and there's not much people like you or me can do to increase its reputation because the Magna name no longer exists on any new cars. It's too late to argue about it unless you want to argue to the majority of Australians who have a preconceived notion about Magnas that they are wrong even though Mitsubishi executives agree with them (Tom Phillips). All that aside, the truth is they do handle like a boat mate (AWD model aside). If it's any consolation, so too do the earlier model Falcons handle like a boat.

1st up i was using the word taxi to describe the otherly populated streets being filled by the falcon and commodore not real taxis.
about there interior well i drive a xi verada and the interior is exceptional compared to say a commodore or falcon. my dada has a tJ exec and my mate has a VT commo and i would rather sit in the TJ than in the commo any day there is more space in the TJ and even more in the XI. alot more comfortable too. as for the handling. well i dnt no how many falcons or comodores you have driven or ridin in but the ones that i have couldnt take a corner faster than my xi or my dads TJ without sliding out and losing speed or complete control
did i mention i used to own both a falcon and commodore??? so yes i know from experience about the lil faults that these cars have compare to your verage magna/ verada. not too mention ive worked in the automotive industry for to years in trde and still reside at the old garage where they work on thes cars. as for the speed of these cars forget commodores V8 or V6 cause there useless as tits on a bull. MY car can pull away from an 8 como. falcons have there his and lows but your average V8 will struggle to shake loose a 3rd gen in good form. my original point that i was trying to make has now faded so let me bring it back to life.
if you want to dis a car that 150% of the forum is passionate about i suggest you go to another site. cause we joined this site to discuss our passion not our hate for magnas.

rofl.. you called ALL Ford and Commodores taxi's, if that isnt generalising then i dont know what is..

Its great youre sticking up for the magna.. But sometimes their are some simple truths that need to be heard and understood.

Falcon, commo's and magnas are all boats.. No use trying to say that 1 is and another isnt.

If youre after performance handling then all the above would need considerable suspension upgrades to make them handle like a racecar.

jarod
21-10-2005, 06:47 PM
all car's except dedicates sports cars(ie.m3,porsche,etc) have crap suspension...stock suspension on a car is designed to be for comfort not for racing...
with a few exceptions of corse..

its also funny now this has gone into a ford/holden/magna battle...

i suspect if the ford lady that origionally said the magna is a boat had driven a honda or merdeces we would just shut up and sit down....

and in closing, let her run her mouth abotu how "gay" our suspension is...imagine how much better at racing we would all do if we had good suspention

I have seen enough crap in this thread now to justify closing it. People will have opinions about our cars forever more, but the worst thing we can do for ourselves is start sounding like some of them, by putting others down, then we are no better.

Before people start shooting their opinions off... maybe stop to think that many of us (including me) have owned or do own cars other than Magna's, Verada's etc and enjoy them just as much too. But if we want to come across as narrow minded elitists then well it would be a very sad day indeed to come to that realisation. And I am not just talking about this thread in particular.

It leaves a really bad taste in my mouth because I know we are better than this... aren't we? Too ****ing right we are!... and I will be targeting this "anti anything Magna" talk hard from now on, because it's not very character building. In fact it is embarrassing :disgusted

Edit: Also WGAF what anyone thinks about our cars... if we enjoy them, that's all that matters... if you are embarrassed then maybe you need to think about that somewhat.
