Gday guys,
Just a bought a 2001 TJ magna (3.5L) on Saturday, and I'm already waving my cash around. I wanna get this thing modded.
Was looking at a K&N Pod filter and cold air induction kit for around $500. Has anyone else gone down this path? Is it worth the cash? Seeing as I could just get a K&N panel filter and be done with it.
Also, I've been told the magna exhaust system isnt too bad, with the exception of the tri flow bit at the back. So really if I want a bit of extra go and a nicer sound (thats what Im really after) I should really just wack a Lukey Ultra Flow muffler on the back and be done with it? For now anyway.
Also, has anyone debadged their Magna? I was gonna have a crack at it, but I stopped when I realised I didnt know if there were was gonna be holes left at the end of it (as opposed to when I debadged my commodore, it comes straight off, and just needs a polish after).
AND finally Im intrigued by the throttle body... so intrigued I was thinking about getting a bigger one, hahaha. Anyone else done this?
Sorry if thats a bit much but you all seem like veteran Magna ownerrs, and I've only had mine less then a week. Cheers!

Hey mate, welcome to the board.
Search button is your friend but have a look here (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26253) about the CAI. I'll let others answer the rest.

Badges just come off, clean up with polish, just like your commodore.
Muffler is easily replaceable with Lukey LR2779 for worthwhile performance.
Filters... Everyone has their own opinion on these... Search and see.
Cheers

Hahaha, it turns out looking for porn isnt the only thing you can do with a search button!
Hey Disciple, that's a sweeeet front bar you've got there. Where'd you nab that kit?
Read through some older posts, and I've decided to buy that RPW Cold Air Intake kit, after speaking to a bloke for RPW. Should be a lot of funning putting it on. Looks pretty nice as well!

Do not pay $500 dollars for a CAI kit...thats a rip off.most of us on here have the DIY ones ...there is even a web site to show you how to do it..and its more/about than half that price...

Dude, I know, I was only having a light joke, no stress (that was why I winked)... our show piece version of the range is the Ralliart... very Flash... if you have a search you should find many pictures and info on the model.
I want one but it is out of the question at the moment lol
I wasn't having a dig at you... we are all a wacky bunch... got to get to know us ;)

There used to be an aussie site with heaps of info dedicated to the Ralliart Magna but for the life of me I can't remember the link or find it anymore.

I've owned the Magna for a little over a week now... and jezus, I didn't know I'd be blowing off VT's and VX's at the lights! I'm not a street racer, but I like to drive quicker than your average nanna. FWD gets off the line quicker, and I think the 3.5L has a power advantage over the Ecotec 3.8L?
I've been told the VT/VX's will you eat you later on down the line, but thats okay, I dont like to speed, just hit the speed limit really really quickly.

I'd say your car would be much, much lighter than a VT/VX. The 3.8 would probably be more torquey, but like I said, in a heavier car. Good luck with your mods man.

Heh thanks man. Still gotta decide which way to go first. My girlfriend's gonna kill me.
Hey one more question before I leave this 'Im a stoopid noob thread'. I got quoted at the Spoiler shop for $400 to have two cosworth style bonnet vents installed on the magna. Anyone know anyone else who's done this? Hope I can be the first. The extra air flow in the engine bay will be a good thing for a pod filter right? Cause one of the vents will sit right on top of where it would go...

These are the vents I have had in mind for mine for some time, I am not sure if they are the cosworth types you speak of? If they are you got beat to it ;)

Sorry but Velocity has them already: http://www.itekonline.com.au/velocity/magna.htm
They can look good though, I would be spending money on performance rather than looks but thats me. Also look at EZ Boy's pod box for CAI.

Bugger! Haha, but thats exactly the look I want, so thats sweet. And yeah I'll be spending money on performance first, I'm just really thinking out aloud here. Cheers guys!

go to ebay, search mitsubishi magna, lots of cool stuck u might want, full red back exaust at 300 bucks, clear tail lights at 230 bucks plus more... just put a panel filter in saves money and does the same as the rest, um if red back exuast is not good go to mr muffler ask for full sports exuast with a hot dog cost around 300-400, throttle body is so not worth it big waste of fuel for an extra 15-20 kw,
hope this helps.....

15-20kw? Sounds like its bloody well worth it to me! :bowrofl: Especially when its something like $180 for a high flowed 65mm throttle body from RPW?
Mate I'm an ex V8 owner... so my fuel bill will have to absolutely sky rocket before I take too much notice.

Neither of those statements are anyway near accurate, the throttle body will give you a fairly small gain, its more about throttle response. Fuel usage will not change by much.

I think he's referring to the fact that
a) it is worth it .......and.........
b) 15-20 Kw from a flowed T/B?? are you on drugs??? try 1Kw if you're lucky - and even that's pushing it.

Hahaha yeah I know, hence my inclusion of the: :bowrofl: smiley.
Got a huge throttle body for my VS, and it helped it get off the line a lot quicker. Fuel consumption didnt really change, or if it did I didnt notice, bloody 5.0L cost me a bomb on fuel.
