We do a little bit of country driving and lately we are taking my Partners VN Commode because his VN's headlights are much better than the Magnas!
I have spoken to one other Magna owner who agrees the headlights are just not up to fast country driving. By fast I mean speed limit driving.
I'm think of seeing an Auto Elect about boosting the headlights somehow, not sure of the cost but I have to increase them somehow.

A vn commodore's headlights are better than a magna's, i laugh at the thought, i had a vn commodore, and i couldnt see any further than about 10m in front of my bonnet on normal driving lights, and the driving beam isnt spead evenly and couldnt be adjsuted.
i dont know what magna you have by the lights on my vrx combined with foggies kick ass

insted of forking out heaps for an auto elecy, why dont you just go and buy stronger globes. I recon the lights are fine on my magna and i do country driving quite often, although i do feel that low beam could be better

Upgrade the globes as said, also get some bigger fog lights, the massive ones.

Thanks guys.
The country driving we do is not Highway driving this is real rural road driving and yes ATM the Commodes lights are much better(about the only thing though!). Read the thread suggested by ringa_2oo4 and although some of it makes sense, probably best to let Garry read it. He will probably understand a hellofalot more of it that me.

yeah.. best bet would be replace both low beam and high beam globes with Philips VisionPlus.. although if your headlights arent in real good condition give the lenses a real good clean (remove bugs and headlamp protectors-worst thing for blocking light output).. also if the lenses (silver reflective bits inside the headlamps) have yellowed replace these with new ones..
this should make a massive difference... (this is assuming you have the standard exec head lights) but if you have the parabolic headlamps, like veradas, vrx's and ralliarts etc then they are crap as crap.. not much u can do to make the light output better, especially the low beams

Quick, simple and best, but not cheapest, way to improve Magna headlights. Keep the lens clean, if you have clipon plastic protectors bin them. They kill the light output and beam. If you need protection fit the adhesive light film. Fit Phillips Vision Plus globes, not cheap but they are brillant, no pun intended. Also insure they are aimed correctly, I've noticed that I have to aim mine slightly lower due to the weight in the back of the wagon, and the fact that wagons rear suspension seems slightly weak. If you still find the lights abit average, look at fitting GOOD driving lights from Hella, Cibie, Bosch or Lightforce. Don't think about the fancy Verada parabolic lights in the belife they are better, they are crap and border on dangerous for quick country night driving. Mine are now acceptable with Vision Plus globes in low beam, yet to fit them in high beam.

The 3rd Gen Parabolics are crap if you want to see the road, they are only good to look at when you are outside of the cabin. Fit regular 3rd Gen headlamps and fit good globes, ensure the wiring plugs are clean, and clean the exterior lens. As suggested, remove any of those clipon guards that do nothing but harvest dirt. If you want stone protection, get the stick-on moulding type.
If you want to see an auto elec, get them to fit direct 12V switched power to your headlights via relays, this will boost them to maximum voltage. Shouldn't cost more than around $50-$75 at the most.

Isnt it amazing how different peoples experiences can be with the same thing!
I had a vanilla flavour TJ, upgraded to the KJ Verada - and I couldnt believe just how much brighter the headlights were! - couple them with the foggies, and what a treat!!
I agree with RING///ART, but please, for other drivers sake - dont go too bright with the low beams!!!

must have been something wrong with your TJ lights mate, they would sh!t all over your para's on the verada.. but becuase you have the foglights you would have pretty good lighting as at least the foggies light up SOME of the side of the road.. :doubt: would change my paras to exec lights but they not only look sh!t, but i dont do all that much night time driving... seriously thinking about some widespread foggies to mount either side under the number plate, thing is they will look "cheap" and "aftermarket".. which im not terribly keen on

The reason why the paras "look" brighter is they produce heaps of glare and hot spots of light 2 feet in front of the damm car! Plus you said you run the foggies which adds more foreground lighting, at least it is a half decent beam pattern. A word of warning, it is not a good idea to run the fogs on high beam as your eye is drawn to the area with the stronger illumination. With the foglights on this would be right in front of the car, which kinda defeats the purpose of having highbeam on. For some stupid reason Mitsubishi didn't wire the fogs to switch off on high beam like the Euros do. As soon as I get motivated I plan on rewireing mine to switch off on high beam, and probably switch on a pair of driving lights.

Dont know if it has been mentioned in this thread already, but there is a relay mod you can do for the headlights. I know there is a thread somewhere that explains what it does, how it works and how its installed. You should get a bit more brightness throught that also. And buy some decent Philips headlights.
