Is it possible to get a gas conversion done on my 2.6 injected Wagon??

If so how much? and would the gas tank fit under the car or would they put it in the boot (if its in the boot i'm not really interested)

Thanks in advance!

Please give the Mitsubishi customer service a call to confirm if your engine can run on LPG first. If you decide it's ok then get lots of quotes as prices vary a great deal for the same equipment and be careful cause there's many backyard non registered installers out there. The standard kit comes with a approx 70L tank which sits behind the passenger seat or lengthwise along the side of the boot.

The heads in the astron were not designed to take LPG, You'll also be replacing valve stem seals every 10-20k kms.

... and this is somehting I don't get, why do Mitsubishi say this engines not lpg compatible when you telephone them when there are excellent examples of their cars running reliably with the conversion?

Are the good examples anomalous and for every one of them, there's 20 other lpg conversions gone bad or Mitsubishi erring on the side of caution as Mitsubishi have nothing to gain and all to lose if the result of their advise are not desirable? Do Mitsubishi know their cars? Do you trust big corporations?

The truth is probably somewhere in between and is a risk the decision maker takes should he proceed. Since I'm not an aggressive risk taker & judging by the fact proceeding with an LPG conversion is counter to expert technical advise from the manufacturer, I shall defer decision making until further information comes to hand that clarifies to the contary. ie take the default outcome now = no-go.

of course not everyone evaluate risks like me.

Ok well they're not designed to run on lpg, doesn't mean they wont though. Whoever owned my car before me had it running on gas for 6-7 years, all seemed ok, though it had expensive parts in it (some high end american lpg brand). Though my valve seals were torched, they were originally brown and circular, now they were black and charred, and oval shaped. Just remember LPG runs VERY hot, and if you skimp on pricing and get a cheap setup, it could cost you alot more later on.

there is a company that makes full conversion kits, just lpg. no petrol at all.

the kit buys from the supplier for aprox $1,600 plus labour.

comes with new injectors (lpg) which plug into your standard management system and mimic your old petrol injectors. the tank replaces the standard item (kits are vehicle specific) and is therfore a similar physical size and literage (usually a bit bigger) as the standard fuel tank.

with everything else in the engine bought up to lpg spec, you will be running 120ron fuel with no worry of detonation ever again.

ill post somes names and partnumbers etc when the rep comes to see me next month (i've managed to get some time on his north/west vic route)
