View Full Version : CV scraping?
I'm getting a noise from the font drivers side area, sounds like a stick scraping along the ground. Had a look underneath, and there's no stick. Noise is noticable at 10-80kph and is especially noticable at low speeds. Noise may still be there at higher speeds ~110, however I haven't stuck my head out the window at this speed to check :D
The noise is there wen travelling in a straight line and gets louder when either turning left/right. Sounds to me like the CV has fainally gone. Do CV's make that kind of sound like a stick scraping along tar?
Could be a rock jammed in the brake assembly I suppose, however no squealing/grinding when braking. No typical CV noises are evident (bok bok bok around corners) so I hope it isn't going to be too bad. On the other hand, yay! new CV's and driveshafts!

Could be wheel bearings?
...
Mine goes bok bok bok around corners... is this my cv booots then?
I was hoping it was just flat spots on the tires but I don't think there are any.
Can anyone confirm either of these?
Price to fix?
Cheers,
Danno

I hate to say it but yes it think yours is the cv joint/ boot.. As mine was doing the same about a year ago.. I cant rememeber the cost of the repair job though.. Was around 200 mark thats including my labour costs.. After this was done i no longer heard the noise and drivind improved..

Alex it doesnt sound like CV's, could be the bearing as stated above, or have you checked to see if the guard thats behind the brake disc is scraping against the disc?
This happened on my old man's KR verada and it worsened as he was turning (dont know why, the whole thing turns with it...but it did lol)

Yea, I thought so...
It's not real loud, but i can definately hear and just feel it especially when i back off. Sometimes worse than other times but it's a bit annoying.
heh, ain't I the lucky one
Took the wheel off yesterday before going down to mechanic to see if there was a stick or anything embarrasing lodged in there. Couldn't find a thing, however the wheel, when rotated forwards did make a grinding noise at certain places of the revolution. My old man heard it too, so I wasn't going mad.
Put the wheel back on with a bit of a bang here and a thump there and the noise is gone. We think it was a small stone caught in the calipers/brake assembly.
CV for that side is fine, no split boot or oil pissing out everywhere.
