Freaky has used them, you may pm him for more info, and yes he used with ron 98. yes they do work. I didnt use the Octane boost but just the petrol cleaner. Somehow it works quite well. Notice a slight improve in fuel economy. Plus minus, if you spend on this why not just pump Ultimate from BP is just as good. But if you are already doing so, adding this will still improve. but it is up to individual.

I just used that and dont seem to be a big deal. In fact my stupid Ron91 woolsworth was working better with my petrol cleaners. but again subjective to driving conditions.

Fuel types, I just felt that BP is one of the best. Heard from too many that when you use it, you immediately notice a difference.

Funny cause one of my mates says the same thing, except he's had bad fuel batches from there on more than one occasion knocking out his oxygen sensors.

higher octaine and octaine boosters will do nothing unless yur car is tuned for it,
yeh it may seem a little better to run but nothing huge...

i only ever use BP ultimate and i run octaine boost sometimes caz i have to with the umm, yeh, so using the premium petrol u should be fine, no need for any other octaine boosters

You east cost guys are lucky. Where i live we only have 95premium which is fine for my car in winter but when the warmer weather gets here it pings its arse off so i add 104+octane booster which just stops it.

When im in adelaide i make sure i fill up with either ultimate 98 or synergy8000, they are the only 98fuels we have here.

98octane fuel with most boosters raise it to around 99-100octane. The boosters seem to work more effciently with lower octane fuel.

I've only ever used Shell Optimax in my TJ VR-X from new.

Stopped using it for a few weeks because a mechanic told me it was a waste of money and I should use regular unleaded. So, I did and seemed to notice a performance drop.

Went back to Optimax and the difference in performance was very noticeable! Now that the car is Supercharged, I have to use RON98 anyway.

Don't know how an octane booster would work with RON98 but it would be interesting to hear from those who have tried it.

hi guys!

my mechanic told me when i first got the magna, that his experiances with them were that if you wanted the engine to perform at its best, to make sure that you were running a highest grade premium you can, and an occasional top up with the octane boost as these engines (the 3.0l mainly) dont like running on poor quality or 91ron fuels.

i have noticed a difference doing this, as i seem to just walk away from almost any other 3l i come up against. i have a friend who only ever runs 91ron from his local servo( a non-brand name) and in a straight line i just leave him for dead to the point of almost a car length at 100k's...

hahah... anyway, i agree with it, use it. not every time, only every couple of months, and also try bp ultimate if you are a regular optimax user and see if you notice a difference.

I have a MASSIVE write up some guys down south did for a uni Practical. I will post it up later, but its suffice to say the difference between 95 and 98 ron fuels is less than spectacular. Ill post it once i get home from work.

I was told that the 24V 6g72 and the 6g74 had no knock sensors therefore there was no performance advantage at all, you only used premium if you started to get a Missfire so it would burn the carbon off the plugs ??

Spot on the money mate! Anyone who thinks they got slight performance gains and smoother idle, its just in their head.

its not the performance but it last longer on mileage and it does clean injectors a bit.

how do you get better milage with equal performance and the injectors squirting in the same amount of fuel no matter what ron it is ?

Optimax is supposed to be a more Dense fuel meaning more Fuel per litre..
Mine seems to get the same K's out of any fuel I put in it..

well, im not a mechanic, or uni student with too much time up my sleeve, but i can tell you that i get more km's out of a tank using 95 or 98ron petrol over 91. How do i know that this isnt all in my head?

Becuase its recorded on my odometer. thats how.

Besides.... 50l of petrol @...

...$1.10/l = $55.00 (91ron)
...$1.16/l = $58.00 (95ron)
...$1.19/l = $59.50 (98ron)

Besides... If im only paying an extra $4.50 to put myself in a surreal realm of happiness while driving my car... its cheaper than an enzo :bowrofl:

good logic, but how abot this

$4.5x52 = $234

Channel that wasted $234 to a full service once a year and do the minor's yourself and you will have a car which lasts forever.

Im not a uni student with too much time on my hands, im a uni graduate with too much time on his hands. lol
